For those Tim Horton coffee drinkers...did you ever notice how much you crave one on the only day of the year when they are closed??
It's so funny!!! In fact, Christmas day, my sister in law told us there were a couple Tim's open for a few hours on the mountain...so didn't my mom and I drive for half an hour to try to find one! Even funnier, we arrived at this one location, we found that it closed at 8pm and when we got there....it was 9pm ...we laughed...my kids thought we were funny to set out on an impossible quest!
Does this happen to anyone else??? Come on, fess up...we saw a few cars doing the same thing we were!

Were you in Hamilton? (referring to "Mountain' reference) And there wasn't a Timmie's open??? wow. I'm amazed. I would think the entire city would have been experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

Usually the Tim Horton's at the gas stations (Esso) are open on holidays. And yes; it's just wrong that the employees (paid minimum wage) also expect stat holidays!

At least in Hamilton!! My honey gives people directions in Hamilton based on Tim Horton's locations. The entire city's economy probably rises & falls according to caffeine levels.

We shun Timmy Ho's. There is much better coffee than Starbucks . . . ahhhh the unusual benefits of life on the West Coast! Some of the best coffee and chocolateries in the world.! -

For me, Tim Hortons is the last resort. I would rather drink what I can rinse from my socks after going to the gym. I have to be really desperate to drink a Tim's coffe. Yesterday being and example. We were in Cayuga looking to buy a used car so i can get back and forth to school across the boarder. As usual, I really needed a coffee (when don't I). There is no Starbucks or Second Cup in Cayuga so, Tim's it was.
Luckily for me, I got like 15 pounds of coffee and a sweet new coffee maker for Christmas so I was set.

There's a Tim Hortons in Chatham, Ontario across from the police station which is the busiest donut shop in town (are the stereotypes true.) I used to meet friends at Tim Hortons reguarly until they moved and my doctor diagnosed type 2 diabetes. Now, I make my own coffee and forego the filled donuts (sigh). Even losing 50 pounds doesn't fully compensate for losing my precious Timmies. However, Metformin is also an appetite suppressant. Maybe after losing another 100 pounds, I can return. I can only hope..... I WANT MY TIMMIES NOW!
(Don't disparage Tim Hortons. He was one heck of a hockey player)

The only Starbucks coffees I can handle are the mild blends. The rest are like battery acid in my stomach. They brew it SO strong.

Oh, Timmie's isn't great coffee, but its friendly. It's homey. It's welcoming. I think Timmie's is a safe comfy rut. And it is a heckuvalot cheaper than Starbucks.

I like Timmy's because the standards for cleanliness are generally pretty high - at least in the bathrooms! I don't actually drink coffee. Starbucks is really expensive but I do go there to get a steamed apple. I go to Tim Horton's for a french vanilla cappucino. I do realize that they are not real cappucino (which I don't actually like) but I enjoy the drink that they make. I wish that they made cider (it is only occassionally offered on the menu and only at select stores).
seb - Until a year ago, I went to TH every morning for a raisin and cinnamon bagel, as is (no butter, not toasted, no cream cheese...) and a large french vanilla. Then when I started to lose weight I cut out the bagel (about 450 calories) and went down to a medium FV. Then after a couple of months I went to a small FV. Finally after roll-up-the-rim, I cut them out completely. A couple of months ago I reached my weight loss goal and after a bit of time I was able to increase my eating a bit (only a bit, mind you) where I can have 1 or 2 small FV's each week. Of course I have to make sure I get at least 300 minutes of cardio in on whatever day I have it...cms

I have to agree.
Bridgehead, then Second Cup, then Starbucks, then, well, by that point one of the above mentioned was open,. Unless, of course, I need some patching compound and the hardware store is closed. Then I head to Timmie's for a donut. Works well.

Before Christmas I spent a weekend in Dallas and we had an interesting conversation with a couple that said that like TH's here, there used to be a Starbucks on every corner. Now a number of them are closing because of lack of business. Apparently SB has always refused to simply sell coffee, in favour of the specialty coffees (at $3 a shot!) and people can't afford it anymore. A sign of the times....apparently now SB in at some parts of the US is starting to sell plain old coffee...cms

For me, it is Bridgehead, whatever other independent fair trade place is nearby, Timothy's (sort of fair trade), and failing that, an energy drink :)
Except that this whole fall I had no options other than Starbucks while I was at CHEO. And Starbucks sucks.

I haven't ever seen a Bridgehead, but I've heard of them. I remember way back when I first heard of Fair Trade, but the coffee brought in for our church coffee hour wasn't great.
I did cheer when I found F/T at Timothy's and I thanked the clerk.
Cjms - I've ordered the steamed apple at Starbucks 4 times. 2 times it was cider. 2 times I watched them pour it from a plastic grocery store apple drink jug. Ick. I'm not doing that again.

Gag!!!!
The coffee is insipid with the aftertaste of compost. The doughnuts are simply over-sugared, oiled-starch obesity pellets (just look at Timmy's regulars).

Went to Vegas with my daughter and they don't put coffeepots in the hotel rooms so that you have to buy Starbucks. Sooo we took our own 2 cupper coffee maker and coffee and brewed our own. Didn't have to run to lobby in jammies to get last one at night or first one in morning. Starbucks is too strong.

In all honesty, if you find Starbuck's too strong, don't go near Second Cup, and definitely not Bridgehead. We consider Starbucks just above Timmie's in terms of strength.

Starbucks coffee always seems watery to me, with an aftertaste of mice. In these parts, I make my own coffee, my tolerance for compromise having been annihilated by too much time spent in Italy where coffee is COFFEE. It is possible to find good coffee in Canada, but not very often. I don't know Bridgehead but, from what Russ says, I'd be open to trying it. My experience has been that too many Canadians approach coffee the way they approach food: enormous servings with the flavour removed to avoid distracting you from the feat of stuffing it all in. Nobody serves GOOD coffee in pint-sized cardboard or plastic containers. Nobody on this planet supersizes WORTHWHILE food or drink or puts it near styrofoam. It's a form of gross abuse against the food the drink and the consumer. It's no wonder so few Canadians say grace before or after they eat or drink.

Think Free Trade coffee. I believe that Timmie's buys it and dilutes it three ways. We have TH coffee at work. I believe the package instructions mention 12 cups of water, I max out at 8. Much better, not great, but better.
BTW, when did you take up tasting mice?

On a tim Horton's related topic:
Should individuals who block the roadway while waiting in line in Tim Hortons be charged? if so, what should the charge be?
(reflecting on news item re , i think, Halifax considering not licesning drive-thru's....to me that is avoidance of the issue. If someone is driving irresponsibly, then charge them. people will quit lining up on the road. tim's will spend the money to fix.)

I haven't been following the story but we have a Timie's on Bank Street, two lanes, in Ottawa. On a busy day, the right lane is blocked with people trying to turn in, reducing the road to one lane. A line of cars is trying, at the same time, to cross the one lane and turn left, an accident waiting to happen.
Now, isn't this something that the people in Planning, or whatever they call themselves, should look at before issuing a building permit? How do you get the traffic in and out when the in and out are the same.

I would think that Tim's needs to work on a solution, but, I also think that the individual who is sitting on the road should be ticketed. They are blocking traffic. Call it careless driving, and maybe behaviour will shift.

With that being said, I had to gag my way through another Tim's coffee today. I was coming back from the Buffalo this afternoon from buying my books for school and was in dire need of a coffee. There is a Tim Horton's at the boarder I was crossing so I stopped to get one. Vile stuff!!! The maple danish on the other hand was fantastic.
Note to self. Make my own coffee before I leave for school in the morning.
