I am not a fan. In fact, I had only heard of Tom Gabel or Against Me (the band) before yesterday because a TG teen sent me a lyric that spoke to them. (Tom wrote about being born female and the name would be Laura). It is the name Tom says she will use now.

I just want to lift up the amazing courage this took.

I applaud the courage and the journey as well.
Its just rather sad that it still takes that much courage to just be who we are.
I look forward to the day when even those with less courage will be finally able to come out and live in the sunshine.....

Me too, RitaTG, me too.
I have had conversations where people cited Ellen DeGegeneres, Carson Kresley... and lately Chaz Bono (having been on Dancing With the Stars), as opening their eyes. They may have never met a gay person or someone TG, but those people on their TV or in pages of magazines gave a face, a smile, eyes, a heart and soul to an issue. The courgage of those celebrities helped those people find the courage to say "I have changed my mind".
I have seen it, with my own two eyes, as without fanfare or newspaper articles a two-point charge voted a few months ago to revise their marriage policy to include same-sex marriages. It passed in both locations, locations that were once a step away from being covenanting congregations.
The vote was not even close.
It passed in one congregation unanimously. In the other, I only fail to say unanimously because someone might have abstained.
Tom Gabel is not well known outside his musical genre, but may someone see his courage and find their own

I went to listen to the song the lyric is from and found it on YouTube (acoustic). Again, it is not my taste in music. Yet, as I am lifting things up, I am also proud of most the comments that support him.
