Sound Track for the Soul on CBC Radio
If you were asked to choose a single piece of music that moved you spiritually, what would you pick?
Listen this Sunday, April 10, to Tapestry on CBC Radio between 2:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. (this segment will air at approximately 2:50 p.m. EDT) to find out what piece of music Moderator Mardi Tindal picked and why.

Thank you for posting this Aaron. When Mardi was at Epiphany Explorations she mentioned that she had just been interviewed by the CBC for Tapestry for this. I'm glad I didn't miss the show.

Symphony No. 9 in D minor by Ludwig van Beethoven. There are dozens of pieces of music that I could cite as moving me spiritually but the Ninth, esp. taken as a whole (too many people overlook the first three movements in favour of the famous chorale), takes me on a journey of the spirit that is second to none.
For more popular fare, I'd go with Leonard Cohen. Hard to nail down a specific piece, though, since spiritual themes run through his poetry and songs constantly.
And for those unable to hear Tapestry on the air, don't forget that they podcast every episode. That's how I normally listen to it. There's links from the page that Aaron linked in his OP. The current show usually goes up shortly after it is broadcast so this one should be up by Monday at the latest.

Called by Earth and Sky (More Voices 135) (has nice ties to two of Mardi's themes - the environmental and the spiritual). (And for me - everytime our congregation sings it, I get to do a great instrumental riff!).

It airs at different times across the country - this is what the CBC's website says: Sundays at 2:05 p.m. ET, AT, CT, 2:35 NT, 3:05 PT, and 4:05 MT
Thursdays at 3:05 p.m. (only heard in areas where CBC Radio's local show begins at 4 p.m.) If you go to the CBC website you should be able to tune in live to anyone of those broadcasts.

Hey cool! I emailed Tapestry a few months ago commenting on the show and wondering if they might like to talk about WOndercafe sometime, and said how we all talk about all these things on the forum, that they do on the show. The show had been about whether the internet can replace church I think...and the guy they had on was very interesting, I had a comment about his own purpose in life. He said he hadn't figured it out yet, but it seamed clear to me. He was a philosophy teacher. It was good.
The first piece of music I think of as moving me spiritually is Accross the Universe by John Lennon. It has always been precious to me.

Love supreme by John Coltrane - anything from Bach a crack in the bell that lets the light through by Cohen.

Panentheism, Coltrane's A Love Supreme would be my choice as well. Beautiful, spiritual masterpiece.

"Concierto de Aranjuez", composed by Joaquin Rodrigo.
Achingly sad, haunting, with a final movement that is exquisitely uplifting.

Thanks Panentheism. I will definitley check that out. Here's an article I did a long time ago on Coltrane and St. John Coltrane African Orthodox Church in San Francisco. A really interesting church, for sure.

I've been thinking about this and I think that I would have to go with kd lang's version of Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen.

Hmm, political product placements, more bizarre stuff that I never thought Canadians would be called -- more and more I feel like I'm living on Mars or something :3
"Better acquaint us with the human animal!" Woot! :3 C'mon Jae, give us a Bonobo greeting -- your wife can take pictures or join in if she wants :3
No poodles were Christianized in the making of this post, but some were savaged.

Having given the better part of my living serving the hope of justice, perhaps rooted in my young admiration for the "Justice League of America", this song touches something deep in me. It offers a rich metaphoric resonance with the gospel and sounds prophetic themes with a melancholy joy.

Thanks for the selection Mike. Had not heard it for some time. Great to hear it again. A fine expression of a common hope.

Is Mardi only alowed one choice?
If it's Canadian - I'd agree with somegal - k d lang's Hallelujah.
For global appeal - Mike's nailed it - One Love.
