Yes, Pink Floyd w/Gilmour in a tie with Lynyrd Skynyrd. I prefer the Southern Swamp Rock all the time, but need a break from the rowdyism, and I love pensive, thoughtful and artistic Floyd.
Also like most of Led Zeppelin, Cream, and even the Rolling Stones, going against the grain.
Skynyrd is really my thing, or my thang? Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan, the underdog Georgia Satellites, Allman Brothers and then there's the Beatles to fall back on and get all wound up in memories. Also Santana, CSNY, Chuck Berry, and the Beach Boys, Buddy Holly, taken with a grain of salt.
Guns 'n Roses are sometimes good to cut loose and have some unbridled fun with? And AC/DC big time. I play guitar, but not as good as any of these. But I do like it LOUD!!!
Today, it's R.E.M., Live (Lightning Crashes) and Coldplay.

Hey Shamanwolf, I know some of those too! Pogues, MacIsaac, Leahy, Afro-Celts. You're into your celtic eh! DO you know CHristy Moore? Fabulous Irish folk singer. We have Iarla O'Lionaird's solo album too, it's really nice. The Pogues are fun. Ever play ENglish folk? I recommend Sharron Krauss's album "Right Wantonly A'Mumming" which takes us through the seasons and is very spiritual. And also the Watersons, really raw and essential English stuff.
Killer, Wow look at all those young bands I don't know about! I've heard of Rage Agaist the Machine, and I like Coldplay, especially Clocks, gorgeous song. ANd of cource I know the Barenaked Ladies.
Mike P, We like lots of world music too, especially Balkan, middle eastern and north African. My husband mainly buys it. But Boy! I know the amazing blast of a scottish pipe band comin' at you full force, like a brisk wind! "Ai, we're havin' a bit of a blow", as they say in the islands of Scotland.
I tried The Mars Volta recently on a recommendation, what a racket that was! Couldn't make it to the end.
Nighthawk: Interpol is on my list to try. What's it like? Oh, we like Arcade Fire too. Singer sounds like Ian McCulloch of Echo and the Bunnymen. Love that group. My Bloody Valentine just freak me right out, but I used to be into the Smashing Pumpkins as a teen.

The bands that you don't know about are probably the metal bands I listen to. Avenged Sevenfold is my favourite right now, closely followed by Disturbed. Oddly enough (to me anyway), Roman Catholics seem to make the best heavy metal music. I like Clocks by Coldplay too, and Viva la Vida and Speed of Sound. Barenaked Ladies are just plain fun to listen to imo.

Hey Killer, Yeah I don't know much metal, but there's a bit I like once in a while. I have Metallica's black album and listen to 6 of the songs at present. Enter Sandman, Sad But True, Of Wolf and Man, Nothing Else Matters...Fabulous songs. I notice quite a religious backlash theme in there too which I appreciate. One is a great song too. I like Bauhaus and National Velvet, and Anthrax's "Got the Time". I liked Skid Row once, "18 and Life" is a great song by them, love the wailing at the end. I liked Loop, and Daisy Chainsaw, and Front 242, and there's this entertaining song by Suicidal Tendancies called "Institution" I had on a mix tape when I was younger. I still get out the old Sonic Youth once in a while. Love "Tunic", "Dirty Boots", "Dissapearer" and "Kool Thing". I heard a Judas Priest song on the radio last year that I liked.

COnsuming Fire: Are those metal bands? I don't recognize a single one!
What's wrong with the Stones?! My fave Stones song is Paint it Black. I also like 19th Nervous Breakdown and Mother's little Helper, lots of other great songs besides. I like lots of 60's music. Growing up in Vancouver in the 70's and 80's that was what we heard on the radio mostly, 60's and 70's rock. Heck they're still playing it! I always tune in to CFMI 101 when we go down to Vancouver. Lots of great memories. Ooo, I also looove Supertramp.

If you like a cross between country, rock and christian music, you may like "16 Horsepower" an alternative country band. They rock and they have alot of twisted religious themes, with heavy guitar (in my opinion) and western picking and the awesome wailing of affected singer Eugene Edwards. Here's a sample lyric:
"I'm diggin' you a shallow grave, and to the sun your face I'll raise,
I'm diggin' you a shallow grave, one hundred buzzards a buzzin'.
I seen death hangin' from the tallest tree,
eyes closed no lookin' back at me
yeah they came an took him in the night
the one who kissed em was greed.
oh everyone will see an' everyone will know,
boy you reap what you sow."
Very moving stuff, lots of minor keys, lots of gut wrenching build-ups. I personally hate country music, and dislike christian music, but like folk and rock and alternative, so, this group is kindof unusual!

Actually , come to think of it, it's not actually the guitars of 16 Horsepower that are heavy, it's more the bass and drums, and just the overall tense and angry atmosphere of the band as a whole, banjo, concertina and all.

Well for openers I am a HUGE Meatloaf fan. After that I love 80's music. My favorites are late 80's hair metal like Poison, Bon Jovi, Def Lepard and such. On that note a shout out to Elanorgold because "18 and life" is one of the best songs ever. I also love a lot of other 80's. Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Genesis, Paula Abdul, the Cars, the Go-go's, C&C music factory, Hall and Oates, and too many one and two hit wonders to count. In recent years the only new music I was interested in enough to actually have the C.D. is Nickelback and Katy Perry and my nine year old loves Katy Perry as much as I do. Also two or three years ago I didn't have cable and watched dvd.s a lot. Among them was Pussycat dolls (which we both love too) and "The best of 80's new wave" (or something real close to that) and my daughter LOVED it. I'd tell everybody I was raising a new wave baby. She was born in '99 and here she couldn't get enough of "the Buggles" (video killed the radio star, another best song of all time), Pat Benetar, Men without Hats, A.B.C., Big Country, Frankie goes to Hollywood (the original version of "Relax" believe it or not), Soft Cell, A-ha, and several others. Some of it I don't think was really new wave but that's not the point. Sometimes we'll be riding in the car and if they play an 80's song she'll say something like "that's old school, I like that". She is so funny. Nowadays I'll be on the computer at night and use V.H.1 as a radio. I should add I LOVE "second chance" by Shinedown (best song of '09 so far at least) and Taylor Swift. She's a great singer but that girl is GORGEOUS.

It's strange I was a teenager in the 90's but it's the 80's I look back at fondly. Personally I think the 90's were horrible when it came to music. I like Nirvana but they ruined everything. My favorites are
Motley crue, GNR, Poison, slaughter, skid row etc etc but also I like pink floyd, Queen, the tragically hip, sweet.
Outside of the rock scene I do like country and folk. I like some of the old country like Johnny Cash, Charlie Daniels, Patsy cline and some newer Trace atkins, taylor swift, kenny chesney, montgomery gentry, keith urban. Folk- I love stan rogers and great big sea.
