Stratagy involved in the upcoming selection of the next term president of the United States is making me wonder about the issues recorded in Genesis.
The voters are expected to decide.... -Am I my brother's keeper?
-Is my birthright worth more than a bowl of pottage?

Not much more than basic simple rhetoric.

Old Testament views on women are still being raised and expected to be accepted.

It seems to me that China is preparing to take advantage of all this foolishness and gain control of our resources.
Repetition of, nations come and nations go. Same as in Genesis.

Are you aware that no one else is posting here, or are you the only one who can see the posts you are replying to?

Yes Chansen, but one of the advantages of WonderCafe is that here I can have a virtual chat with myself and appreciate my own company and help myself get some appreciation as to how things may be unfolding without getting too wraped up in myself.

Need to be careful with that business of getting wrapped up in yourself Naman. A person who is just wrapped up in themself makes a very small parcel.

Okay, that's a little mean, guys...don't you think?.
Naman...I hear what you're saying. Often, WC is like writing into a journal. You can go back and read what you posted and learn from it as well, or realize how your own outlook has changed.
I think you are correct. The Bible, because it is not a chronological and exact history per say, but it is insight into behaviour, really shows us how history repeats itself, in different times and places (and often the same places, i.e. the Middle East). And I also think with the free market economy and all the outsourcing of resources, or just about anything in the name of money, that happens withoout our consent, we often get sold out by our governments.

Well, anyway, I am no longer just talking to myself in this thread. Thanks for the comments. I know that much of what I say here at WonderCafe is misconstrewed, mostly by myself.
I do not have a well organized approach to figuring out what is going on in the campagning for the American election. It am just afraid that the voters will fall victim to bondage and flock behavior. Not that I am above such problems myself. So, I can not really complain when people do not listen to me.

Naman, I too am concerned about the resource investments being done by other countries.
I know the ripple effect of of the tarsands well, working for a company that supplies equipment and engineering.
I also recognize how much of that concern is based on the lack of knowledge of the other, and also a sense of fear due to size, politics, and my own awareness of Chinese hackers, apparently backed (or at least ignored) by their country.
After all, US investments in Canadian companies hae gone on for many many years.

Hi naman,
The voters are expected to decide.... -Am I my brother's keeper?
I believe one party, at the very least is hoping that this ploy gains traction. Why keep your brother when they have bootstraps of their own to pull themselves up by?
Is my birthright worth more than a bowl of pottage?
Seriously, the bowl of pottage isn't even on the table. It is birthright for nothing. Unless you have a birthright that others might envy and then you get to keep your birthright and we'll give you the pottage denied to others who would sell their birthright for a roof over their heads and food in their bellies or meds for their families.
Grace and peace to you.

Thanks, RevJohn. Actually I was thinking that social programs had become a birthright in the western world.

Naman has edited this post out of the sandwich generation thread where it was not appropriate into this thread but it is still in reply to Pinga's suggestion.
Good idea Pinga. Let's forget about this silly thread and join me in the outdoor party I am attempting to organize in social for Labor Day.

naman,
what did you think of the republican convention?
(i got to see some Merrycan natives' reaction to it)

I did not pay any attention to the Republican Convention. Except that they were afraid that the hurricane would overshawdow it I do not know what went on.

A bunch of people were very excited about a government small enough that it would only fit in a woman's uterus and very excited that they might be able to convince enough poor people that rich men paying less taxes will somehow help poor people. Several prominent republicans seemed very interested in being the presidential candidate in 2016. Jesus was front-and-centre throughout. Mormonism was as hidden as a pair of magic underpants.
At one point, an old man was visibly upset with a chair.
That's about all you need to know.

chansen, that is the best summary of the convention and the Repugs platform ever. Thanks. Apparently these people do not like being controlled by the government, but they have no problem controlling women. Lovely.

"A government small enough that it would only fit in a woman's uterus" - a description both apt and witty that will remain with me. (and which I'll download for free, and not pay royalties).
Well done, Chansen!

Thanks for filling me in Chansen. Otherwise I would have missed the whole thing.
