Relating To Secularists and Non-Christians

Scienceagogo.com is mostly about science, but there is a section titled" NOT QUITE SCIENCE--about the philosophy of religion and how it relates to science. There I opened a thread using the name "Turner" my wife's maiden name and my son's name. He started the thread for me and then I used my own name.

There has been quite a healthy response. There I speak quite freely about the UCC and how we are interested in moving out side the box, which is how many people think of the church. Hardly any posters have been disrespectful. The gracious hosts--who believe in the Golden Rule--keep a sharp eye on posters. The do not tolerate posters who fail to respect one another .

Currently  there are over 2, 160,000 hits on this one thread, below. I think I am the only minister in this section. Feel free to check it out and, if you feel inclined,  join in.

My lastest conversation with a friendly Agnostic/Atheist, Crosshatch--and others who are not so-friendly--is as follows:

DEALING WITH DESTRUCTIVE EMOTIONS

=================================

In my relationships with those who ask for counseling some people mention their fear of death--a very common fear.

About dealing with fears and any of the destructive emotions. I usually ask: Have you ever checked out the writings--I like his A NEW EARTH & THE POWER OF NOW--and videos of Eckhart Tolle? Lets us know what you think of his idea: Be AWARE of your fear, right NOW. In other words, don't be afraid to say: I am, therefore, I can imagine anything I choose to focus on, even my fears. I find that the very act of doing this is like turning on a light, or lighting a candle, in a dark room.

BTW, I call this process metateteion (going beyond the head--the French for which is tete), not just meditation.

WITH A NOD OF RESPECT TO RENE DESCARTES--
Who first said, "I think, therefore, I am..." I wrote this poem, recently:
==================================

I am, therefore, I can imagine;

I can imagine and can think of anything I choose.

I can choose: I will be sad,

Or be very, very glad;

Or raving mad and deep down in the blues.

What it will be is up to me,

When life can be a win/win game

We do not have to lose.

So we will see what it will be

When we learn how to live right NOW.

-----------------------------------------

IF YOU LIKE IT PASS IT ON.
