What to Buy a Guy for Valentines Day

So, I don't know what to buy for Valentines Day.  I was going to buy my bf a lotto ticket.
Do you think that is a good present?  Or is Valentines Day all about the woman and I shouldn't bother with buying him a present at all?

How long have you been dating this guy?  That might affect your decision.

I once had my second date with a woman on Valentine's Day.  (Though I considered it a first date since the first time we met was actually a coffee to ensure that the person on the dating website was who they said they were -- so Valentine's Day was our first real date after that coffee.)

She had bought me a ladybug-shaped fancy cookie from a bakery.  It was nice and I enjoyed it.

If my wife bought me a lottery ticket, that would show me just how much she.....

fails to comprehend math.

Best present for a guy is something that plugs in. Tools, toys, tech.

Depends what he's into, though. Personally, I get enough of the plugged in stuff at work. I'd rather get books or music (either recordiings or concert tickets).

I prefer to have an outing for Valentine's day.  Go out for dinner, or cook him dinner and have a heart shaped dessert or something like that.

Though, for the record, my husband would agree with Witch, which is why I am considering buying him a Garmin for the car.  I plan to include a sappy note saying something like "So you can always find you way to me".

I odn't get my hubby anything and he doesn't get me a gift either.

I think it a foolish holiday.

But if i was dating a new guy, as I think you are, then I would do something little and sweet.  Perhaps a mug with some hotchocolate or maybe a package of nice cookies.

I wouldn't do a lottery ticket.  Just imagine if it won.  You bought it, gave it to a guy you don't know that well and now he has X millions.  Tricky

Chocolate. I like getting chocolate. Especially mint chocolate. She already has my present picked out though -- flowers. It's always flowers. That's what I get for marrying a flower designer.

In exchange she won't get anything for Valentine's Day.

Her present will come about a month later onWhite Day. She likes getting plush animals.

And waaaaay too commercialised.

My wife and I celebrate Lupercalia, which was replaced by Valentines Day, for obvious reasons.

I'd just try and get him something he likes. I'm getting my wife a season of "I love Lucy". She loves classic tv. I wanted M*A*S*H (we've both gotten into that lately since it was a Christmas gift for her) but they were out. I'm hoping for comics and if not that maybe one of my shows to watch.

It is a silly holiday. Having said that, should my wife by chance read this - I'll be happy with cash!

trishcuit, that would be what my hubby would prefer!  But, I'm seriously thinking doing a little bit of a low-light, candle-light thingie ( ya know). . . preparing while he is out at a meeting.  Seems like a good idea now, but I will probably chicken out by evening.

We did nothing this year.  I like to celebrate Valentine's day, but this year I just feel too busy and drained.  He doesn't care about Valentine's day as much, and was happy to hear I didn't really want to do anything.  He will celebrate the day when I want to, and I'm pretty sure he's happy when he gets chocolate.  We've agreed to do something fun next year, when we're hopefully less stressed and a little wealthier!

Today, I'm quite glad that we're not doing anything.  He has a minor cold but it's making him a little cranky and he doesn't even really want me around.  I'm enjoying procrastinating my laundry right now (I will have to start laying things out once the timer goes for my last load though!) and got home too late to really feel like celebrating anything today.

I baked him a heart shaped carrot cake. The way to a man's heart is thru his stomach.

ain't THAT the truth!  I didn't have any $$ so I cooked a nice dinner, one that includes food he likes.  A manly, meat and potatoes meal.
