Are You The Favorite Person of Anybody?

I was was watching a movie by Miranda July today called "Are You The Favorite Person of Anybody".

It was about a man with a clipboard asking ordinary people like ourselves a survey question: "Are you the favorite person of anybody?" He has a scale, from "very certain" on down. His manner is open and he offers oranges to the respondents. He talks, one at a time, to three people. Their answers, however brief, are revealing that they were not anybodys favorite person.

This question was always in my mind so I answered that question "Was I anybodys favorite person?

And it came to me that I wasn't anybodys fav. Then I asked 9 of my family members ' Are you anybodys favorite person" without any explanation to the question, I just asked it right out. And only 1 person thought they were, and still she was only gussing she was.

So I asked myself who is my favorite person and with no suprise my mommie is.  So I went up to her and asked. " Mom, are you anybodys favorite person? and with shock she said " You " like she already knew. I do suppose moms know best.

So, I want you all the ask yourself-

Are you the favorite person of anybody?

Who is your Favorite person or people?

Do you they know that your their favorite person?

I'm God's favorite preson. I know, that sounds a little arrogant, if you want to know my reasoning behind that, read the shack.

I find that I don't have a favorite person. I see people for who they are at the level of their spirits, and everybody is so complex and beautiful in their own way. Maybe I just haven't found the person I find favorites in...

Hi tragicfalls: Welcome to wondercafe!

My answer is "yes" to all three. My wife Wally is my favourite person; I am her favourite person; and we both know that we are each other's favourite persons.

Greetings!

I have to go along with FG, I am God's favorite person (aren't we all?), as in "God is especially fond of me" (from The Shack).

I think I am certain person's favourite in certain ways.  The only one I could say so for sure is Mr.'s favorite, he's my favourite overall (although isn't as good at "girl talk" as some of my girlfriends).  And I think he knows he's my favourite - I guess I'd better make sure!

Hope, peace, joy, love . . .

Hi Tragicfalls,

For reasons that he took to the grave with himself I was my grandfather's favourite person.  No one in the family doubted it.  No one in the family disputed it.  Now nearly 39 years after his death I am still respected as that favourite.

With new generations there are new favourites and that doesn't bother me at all.  Still, it remains that for my generation and the generation that preceded me I have a favoured position.

I don't abuse that position.  I don't even understand how it works to be quite honest.  I mean, at family functions we'll have pie.  What kind of pie?  Blueberry pie?  Why blueberry?  Because it's John's favourite.  Yeah but John will eat anykind of pie so why not ask the others?  Stunned look of silence until the light turns on.  Oh right, its John's favourite.

My immediate family (wife and kids) don't pull that kind of nonsense.

Samuel our 50lb lab/samoyed cross thinks I have the best lap and chest to snuggle on.

Rose our 30lb terrier/lab cross thinks I am the best holder.

Lily our 60lb hound/lab cross thinks I make a great body pillow.

I think I do okay.

I have a lot of favourites.  People who make my day just by letting me stand next to them and share a laugh.

That is a good question.  I probably haven't said it directly, "you are my favourite."  But then, I don't think my grandfather ever said it directly to me.  It may have been said to others so that they would know but it was never made explicit.  But I was 5 when he died so maybe that memory never stuck.

I think that there would be clues.

My wife could probably answer that better/or easier than I could

Grace and peace to you.

John

Hmmm.

Well like John, I was my grandfathers favorite person and everyone knew it :)  (I miss him, he was a good man). Now I would say that I am my husbands favorite person equally to his mom!(we are keeping our fingers that that will stay). I am my cats favorite for sure. For me, my favorite person would have been Jesus because of his principles etc..., they match my own. Now I would say that my favorite person would be my husband with a close second being my one niece.

It is strongly suspected/believed that I was my paternal grandmother's favourite grandchild.

I have reason to believe (or is it only hope) that I am the favourite person of my spouse.  ANd it is reasonable that I am in the running for that status for at least one of the girls (I am sure that mom wins for one and the third is up in the air) and posssibly the dog.

I may be the favourite person of some very insane people.

I hope I'm my friend Ian's favourite person. He's mine too. My husband is in a whole nother category. It's like it's cheating to say he's my fave person. I love him somethin' awful - but that's a given, no?

Nobody would doubt that I was my maternal grandmothers favourite person. She left her six girls when they were very young because of a bad marriage. He was not a good husband, but not bad as a father. She no ability to support them and he could. Once she left, he would allow no contact. Her girls only re-met her as adults. It was a tough decision and one she  was not thought of fondly for making. I offered the much maligned and often despised woman a second chance. Through me, they learned she was not a bad person.

She had Parkinsons. When she withdrew, she withdrew from everyone but me. When she talked rarely, she always whispered for me. When she was confused, lost memories of everyone and everything, she knew who I was. When her face was locked in that Parkinson's mask, her eyes still lit up when she saw me. I told the nurses she would talk very rarely to me. They looked at me like it was wishful thinking. Grandma had all but lost the ability to swallow by this point. One day, as I changed her diaper, with a nurse checking on the lady in the next bed, my grandma whispered "I used to have a cat". I was wearing a necklace with a cat image on it. The nurse heard her.No doubt about it, I was her favourite person.  She was among mine. We never said it, but we knew.

I am the favourite person of my wife. She is my favourite person. We make sure we each know it.

It's interesting to see how grandparents are often mentioned. I was my maternal grandmother's favourite - and as I've aged, I can see that in many ways she influenced me more even than my parents. Her two "golden rules" were 1. Live and let Live(tolerance) and 2. Don't concentrate on what you lack, develop gratitude for what you have.

Over the years, life has presented me with many difficult moments, but I can honestly say that those two "rules" have stood me in good stead.

I was also my sister's favourite person when we were children together. She died when she was 37 of motor neurone disease, but, despite my pain, I held onto the love whe shared in life with a sense of gratitude.

As an adult, I was my husband's favourite person for twenty years until he died in 2007. Once again, ultimately, it was a sense of gratitude for having shared my life with this wonderful man that got me through.

Now, I'm nobody's favourite person. The strange thing is that it doesn't seem to matter anymore. I feel gratitude for having experienced being a favourite person -and that seems enough.

Besides, I may not be THE favourite person anymore, but I still have my fans....

Over Easter, I took my six years old granddaughter to the Botanical Gardens. I asked her what her favourite moment of the holiday was. Her reply? "Seeing you, Nana Chris."

What goes around, comes around.
