bedouin Israelis and the Scriptures

I have just had a talk with the head of Canadian Jews for Peace in the Middle East. She is very upset that the Israeli government is displacing 40,000 Bedouin Israelis from land they have lived on for centuries, and whose ownership of that land as private property was recognized by both the British and the Ottoman empires.

Now, these bedouin are Israeli citizens. Let us be clear on that. The land they live on is owned by them. But their land and their homes are being taken away by government fiat.

Why?

the official reason is that the bedouin are "taking over" the Negev desert.  (In fact, they are living on the same 5% they have always lived on.) But the bedouin are going to lose their homes, and the only way they have known to live. They will be forced into cities to try to survive as cheap labour - with devastating effects of poverty and, probably, crime.

Their lands will then be handed over to Jewish Israelis..

The head of CJPME gave me a long list of Judaic scriptures which condemn any such practice.

I can't think of any Christian scriptures that justify it. I would be interested to know if anyone knows of any reason that would justify this in any Christian or Judaic scriptures.

I know it's not as interesting as magic tricks like turning water into wine. But it does seem to me to be the sort of issue Christians should be discussing as pertinent to their faith.

While I don't think the Bedouin Israelis are Jewish, they are nonetheless Israeli citizens, and have been for a long time.  It bothers me as well that the Israeli government would seek to displace them.

Modern day Israel has always been about land grabbing, this isn't new behaviour.

graeme,

Thanks for alerting us to this issue.  Whatever our stance on Israeli-Arab relations, we need to stay acurrent on what is actually happening --and this Bedouin controversy is new to me.  Still, it sounds like the stated reason for the land grab is only the tip of the iceberg, and I'd love to get more information.

As for Arab Israelis, in my trip to Israel a couple of years ago, my most memorable encounters involved the Druse Arabs in northern Israel.  Their warmth and hospitality were amazing.  I was also struck by the apparent poverty of the Bedouins who sought to make some money off us with their knickknacks and camel rides.

The trouble with the state of Israel is that one can hardly offer any critique of state policy without being labelled "antisemitic" or without being dragged into an either/or dispute.

As if one couldn't simply be in favour of humanity without favouring one particular ethnic or religious group.

Tribal thinking dies hard, especially in the Middle East.

Hi Arminus--I do agree with you ,as humanity being free goes,I to wish freedom for all. I am not an expert on Bedouins. Thanks to this thread ,I got to read a littel more . On them and who they are . An why they live as a part of Israel. They still do hold to there Tibal ways, and thoughts. Which is not the thoughts or the ways , of the country they have chosen to live in. Israel has accepted  them as a part of Israel, well others around them will not. Tribal"  , it seems has started to be used more on wondercafe. To me it sounds Prime  evil. The word today is Nation. Much blood has been spent to have this word used . In referrance of a group , that thinks and acts as one. In time to come ,Humankind may come together an think a like. Then we will change that word nation,  to another.  Meaning much more. (Kingdom) Of God.--God Bless--airclean33

Damn right. Hitler had the idea when he incinerated Jews. They didn't conform to his idea of a nation. I mean, people died to establish a German nation. Damn Jews deserved what they got.

Inicidentally, Israel did not "accept" bedouins. They were there long before Israelis; they legally owned the land; and they were autmatically a part of Israel from the word go.

Now, I'm going to go around all the white churces of Moncton to tell them it's time to clean out all of the Jews, Moslems, Atheists, Koreans, African-Canadians who aren't willing to fit in to the way we look and act.

Not sure about the Acadians yet. But if they keep jabbering in French, they might have to go, too.

Prime evil ... that tendency to desire to posses all you see including the people of the land ... who are so much wee mire (dirt?).

Do we have much thought of aboriginal nature ... or do we even care about inhospitable lessons learned in the past about being responsible for the neighbour as they are part of your existence. How often a mortal forgets ... slips into not knowing ... backsliding or just the old natural rule about action and reaction ... leads to reflexion of light as it wends abouts ... bent? Light is a strange thing like illuminatii ... despised by the excessively emotional about possession ... dispossessed regarding thought!

Comes from worshipping God as pure Love ... without the attachements; justice, mercy and humility ... the blackout zone or something not to be spoken of ... write it for future phoqah that might be interested in what went wrong when it is too late of act ... appears we may be on that edeg ... fringe people in the extinction mode?

That's baseline or a place to hide truth about primal emotions ... requiring some following thought ... hermuenetics in another tongue as a latent form ... following intelligence as a soon as we dump our emotional baggage?

Could this dump (ghenna) be a wealth of intelligence and wisdom if people could take the knocks of getting intuit? The search is on if you can't knock ... ye'll never find wisdom ... like intellect that Webster defined as out-of-here/hàre ... kris hna? Magi crystalled ... necessary for neuroplasticity ... or the alte-ego ... new awareness?

Gotta dig it as subtle ... under lyre?

Many don't like to know much ... on the inside story!

Back in the 50s, 60s and 70s I had great admiration for the Israelis but over the years they have become what they are fighting. I am reminded that  Friedrich Nietzsche wrote "Whoever fights monsters, should see to it that in the process he does not himself become a monster."

I wonder whether it's possible to fight without becoming a monster. To fight necessarily demands creating hatred of the enemy which is then used to justify the torture and killing of quite innocent people. And after the battles, the monsterism lives on.

True. Reminds me of Bishop Spongs lecture on the bible as a progress from tribal thinking (old Testament) to the more modern approach of humanity....

Some gave there lives trying to save them.Have you never heard of Shindlers List?  I would say what Hitler did ,was for the want of  MONEY.Do you know the bedouins joined the jews, and where fighting  With the Jews for for the land of Israel? As far as the women and men who live on the east coast. I found to be the  most friendly. I had ever found. It's kind of funny but for the 4 years I lived there . I hadent  noticed anybody  there that care what you were . As long as you were a good  neighbour. There is a french and Inglish thing going on . But no hatred that I seen. In fact my best friend there was  of  French descent. "I wonder whether it's possible to fight without becoming a monster?"

Basic natural law: action, equal and opposing reaction ... to recess is unnatural ... but if you think of it does such logic make regressional sense?

Sets a whole new standard for unnatural ... what the polynesian said was "manna" purely unnatural as the fruit picked from the treeof logic ... bread fruit of the mind. Allows truth to be a sublime construct ... like Darwinian return to Britian with breadfruit cuttings?

One has to make alien connections to gather common sense ...

Anima is natural blood thirst ... animus is something else if you think about it ...

That is against church piousness that is contentious to intelligence ... or anti intellectual! Does the word say we should love the alien? Big odds we missed that ... devil of a situation or strnage encounter with the Sam Eire-i-ðan ... you couldn't say this straightforward in an emotional state! Only humble and latent like hermuenetic ... the following shadow of what was cast from the flame ... or phore as they called it anciently!

Passion is always right out there like Fruit of the Loem ... the dirt on the situation when enlightened ...

I think it is.

A martial arts fighter is trained not to hate his opponent, and to principally negotiate rather than fight. But, if fighting is inevitable, to fight to win, with expertise, courage, and conviction, quickly overpowering the opponent and inflicting a minimum of suffering or damage. And, if fated to lose, to lose honourably, with courage and conviction intact. For a martial arts warrior, a fight is a match, where there has to be a winner and a loser, much like fencing or jousting or gladiatorial fights: a contest of fighting skills. Only that, in this contest, the loser sometimes dies. The martial arts fighter accepts win or loss with equanimity.

Actually, hating your opponent is a weakness in a martial arts contest because it weakens the warrior's concentration. Fear of death is also a weakness, for the same reason. That's why martial arts warriors often are initiates of a mystical school, where they learn not to fear death and to love their enemies. In some martial arts schools, the love bond with the opponent is sacred. If they must kill their opponent, they kill him lovingly, or "sacrifice" him, as they prefer to call it. And they don't mind being sacrificed themselves.

Unfortunately, few warriors are trained martial artists. If there were more, there would be far fewer wars.

Arm,

That was not my quote , but Graeme's from above. My comments on it are just to reinforce what you've just stated.

I posed it in a question as "I am just a common person" that is not supposed to know under church law (by those better than I am; the elect?). Then there are some churches that deny questions as well ... leading to the binary question about not knowing or caring.

If you put these characters together would you get the Zero Sum ... like a nonfunctioning soul ... perhaps somnolent ... not yet awakened yet? Could all this come as a choqah ... the fall out of an unknowing and uncaring state ... when a character begins to know about all things in time?

Would that be a far stretch of abstraction or just a clearing state of soul ... catharsis ... perhaps a white washing? Probably depends upon your perspective ... where you are when you awake to IÐ ... the primal power which is ineffable!

Real people are not to speak of such things as abstractions ... as if they knew what was missing ... in the old sense that abstract is incomplete!

The trouble is  that fighting a war requires popular support - and the easiest way to get that is to create hate. Creating hatred, especially since studies carried out in World War Two, has been at the core of military training. Newspapers (including the best of them) are used to generate hatred.

One can fight without hatred. I've known plenty of boxers who did it. But a war without hatred has never been possible, never in human history.

Of course, not all Germans supported Hitler. I have never heard of any country in which everybody supported the leader or any national project. the reality remains that Hitler had massive popular support. Schindler's List became a movie not because lots of Germans saved Jews, but because so few did.

Indeed, the rounding up of Jews in general was made possibly by the popular collaboration of Germans, some French, Poles, east Europeans in general, many Dutch. (The Dutch were a large part of the German military). How do  you think Anne Frank got caught? Jews returning after the war from death camps were dunned by Dutch authorities for their back taxes piled up while they were prisoners.

The West coast is friendly? Tell that to the Chinese and Japanese Canadians were victims of regular and severe riots in BC up to World War Two, and, in the case of Japanese Canadians, who were sent off to internment camps with cheers. Tell it to the Indians who, early in World War One were refused permission to dock in Vancouver, and were sent out into an ocean region in which a German raider was known to be lurking.

One could say the same for any Canadian city. Toronto was notorious for its persecution of Jews. Nova Scotia was hell for African Canadians - and hasn't really improved much.

I'm mad at the world? that's a silly statement. It's so broad it means nothing at all. But I certainly am guilty of getting mad at bigots, and at Christians who talk love but spend most of their time looking on with their faces hanging out.

One has to teach people to hate?

Do we live in a world of hate or overblown self-centred love?

Kinda makes your head spin ... DOS effect in a fixed hatred Zoan?

Well, there's a lot of hate. I don't see self-centred love so much as I see self-centred arrogance.

This is true ... but can you tell people truth? This is the sort of thing that living undeer Jacobean stories ... people just don't wish to understand. As a matter of fact it is biblical standard that God's people don't wish to know ...

What does that make me? Just because Iponder deeper things ... does that make me profound or just below the horizon of Gods ... a marginal state ... like borderline personality from the DSM? das am ... if you leave out the vow eLs ... and eL is a another word for God ... all encompassing ... infinite ... the Romans and Jews didn't comprehend infinite nor nothing and nothing was made of their incomprehension ... leaving eMe as if they'd been hit by a pot of some alien crap ... akin to a thought yhat was eliminated by others ... like caring for your alternate self? That which is beyond you as myth? Many can't believe there is anything else in the whole cosmos ... so their thoughts have nowhere to go when the body dies ... proving that thoughts reside in a void that you can draw from .. as if druid up ... a Celtic rising!

Tis an odd concept in a real world ... like eclectic comprehension that you've been pinched ... like dirt in a pool and there he settled ... as sedintary thought! You know tarian thought is latent ... sort of creeps up on yah ... like psychosis ... angels taking flight (UFOs) and authority will do anything to keep common sense stoop ID ... an emotive state of mind that is devoid or just isn't ... thinking ... as hanging participle?

Was Juda's ung up ... as a power of seeing light (illuminatii) sinking into a tome ... sometimes if you read slowly it'll rise up to your level ... like po' phoqah ... that are generally beyond the horizon of real sensations ... thought, sense feeling and intuition often in great confusion of conflicted in the void ... where thought shoulda bin ...
