Big Questions or a series of Little Questions

I was thinking about the original wondercafe ads..with our wonderful squirrel.

It got me to thinking

Is life about the big questions.....or just  the series of little questions.

Do the big questions matter?

If so, then if you had one definitive faith question that you could have answered...what would it be?

Lately, to me, it seems I am getting lost in the little questions....missing or not giving time to the bigger one.

what about you?

Good question (no pun intended)

For me, I guess "the" big question is how do we get enough people to answer the little questions - the things in their own lives that they can affect - that the big questions get taken care of.

Because that's where it has to happen. "Think globally, act locally" to steal a cliche. If each person in each situation in their daily lives, acted from the understanding that whatever choices they were making, big or small, affected an ever-expanding circle of people/world/Creation, no matter how imperfectly the implementation we would indeed transform this tired old rock.

The reverse happens to me. I focus on the big questions, but miss out on the little ones.

aaah, GR....so you are approaching it from the standpoint...of "dare to notice that there is a question"...and then act upon it.....

What does it take to open's people eyes, hearts and wallets...knowing that opening one's eyes comes at a cost.  Interesting question..

alex...ithink we need the dreamers to see the big questions..

I am left to wonder what are the big questions?

I very much doubt they are the same for all nor will the answers be equal.

Take - why am I here?

There is a simple answer and then there is the unanswerable.

A question that sometimes drives me hazy: am I or are the others crazy?

Here is my big faith question ...  If you had a "big faith question" and someone answered it would the answer dissolve your faith by substituting certainty?

What if God was a shallow cosmic airhead celebrity with a skilled publicist?  Would you want to know?

In the Hollywood movie "God" they had George Burns play the title role.  What if he was miscast?  What if the only actor capable of really "disappearing into the part" had been David Hasselhoff?

Here is a question ... What if life is not really about answering questions at all?

As I reflecton some of the questions....i realizethat if I had the answer....then.....others wouldn't..so how would it differ...I'm picutring Joan of Arcadia...talking to God..but no one knows....

Hi qwerty:

I think the little questions are just sub-questions of the big questions:

Who or what am I? Why am I here?

Once the big questions are answered, the little ones become redundant.

I think we are here to create. To me, having been created in the image of the ultimate creator means that we are creators in the image of the utlimate creator. After we realize and internalize that, everything else becomes a matter of creation.

I think energy capable of creatorship is all there is. And this is what we are: creative energy. We are here to create, co-create, and co-evolve, in cooperation with each other and the ultimate cosmic creator.

I further think that the universe is a self-creative singularity in a state of synthesis. Once we realize and internalize that, then we become IT and are IT—forever!

Hi Pinga,

What is with the either/or thinking?

pinga wrote:

The question that matters most to any individual at any given time is probably the one that they are asking.  Size doesn't matter.

pinga wrote:

To pick a nit.

This definitive faith question is one that could be answered "now" right?  All faith questions will be answered.  There is just no guarantee that we will like the answer or be in a position to appeal it.

Grace and peace to you.

I think for most people, it is the little questions that matter most and then from there evolve the big questions.

Question: If we answered the little questions, would there be any big questions?

Your comment made think of Jackson Browne:

Doctor, my eyes ...
I have done all that I could
To see the evil and the good without hiding
You must help me if you can

Doctor, my eyes
Tell me what is wrong
Was I unwise to leave them open for so long

I have dozens of big questions that spawn zillions of other, some smaller ones and other large ones.... What if hidden in the miniscule is THE answer.... Hmmmm

Why are we here? What if we weren't here? What if we aren't here?

Are we alone in the universe? What 'we'? Does unaware mean alone? Can you be alone while with others? Would we be? This universe? Are there others? Has it always been?

A teacher once said I reminded him of his years at university in the 1960's( UC Berkley), he said something about "the mindset without the rolling". It sounded bad, but he clarified that I was deep and mystical and answered questions with other questions and let mystery be mystery. Maybe he perceived it as not bad because he did too much rolling. LOL

Revjohn -

- I decided to try to go with the binary model on this question-- sorry..not an infinite list of options -- either/or..yup...pick one.  (though, if you must..tell us what your big one would be..and some of the smaller ones))

Interpret big as "weighty" or "important"...rather than the length of the question...ahem.

good question regarding the timing of the answer...if you learn it post-death...does it count....hmmmm

I find it difficult to determine what is my big question.

Questions that I routinely ask with respect to my faith are:

1)  Who are you?

2)  Who am I?

3)  Where are you?

4)  Is that you I feel?

Grace and peace to you.

So, qwerty -- you are proposing..that it is the doing, not the asking..but..even in doing, there is a question....

My big question is:

What is the true nature of the Universe?

Only the Q know.

Little questions take up most of my time at the moment. How to make money, how to get along with so and so, how to raise my kid up right, how to do my taxes without wigging out... how to make black licorice....

Yes, in my case. Even if we did know everything, we may still feel as if there is more to find out though!

Pinga - I'm bumping this up.  I would really like to hear comments on your video.  Having been a teacher I was interested in how the teacher related to the various children in the class.  I was particularly interested in why she wouldn't listen to the little girl who witnessed the playground incident.

Some discussion on this please?

Heh Seeler....to me the video was about choices....and the choices we make...it spoke to the GR point regarding how each action we do has an impact....

So....let's transfer from the theoretical, to the practical aspects of this video.

Pinga's picture

Pinga

image

For me, the teacher ignored the child.....as she appeared to have a pattern of tattletaling. She was on my nerves already...and I only had seen the video for a few minutes.

so...the series of little questions for the girl was.....by always going to the teacher, she seperated herself from her class.....yet...she was kind to the new person....but she didn't call the kid on his action (if I remember correctly), nor did she step in or stand beside him on the playground

for the teacher, was she good or not?  the kids ended up working out their situation, and becoming friends through a common adversary (the teacher)
