From another thread, and not wanting to derail -
Do you think that the world is a better or worse place than it was in the past - ten years - 25 years - 100 years?
What do you consider the greatest evil (sins, short-comings) of the world today?

I don't know if the world, or my part of it, is improving or backsliding or perhaps standing still. Generally I think it is improving, but occasionally sliding back. I'm afraid that in the last 10 to 20 years it has been slipping.
I see the gap between rich and poor widening.
- corporations and industry having more power than people.
- greed
- lack of justice, mercy and compassion
- lack of respect

Some things are better, some are worse. Whether or not you think that balance is better or worse, I think it's fair to say that things aren't just standing still.
Overall, I think things are better. Looking back in time many people are horrified about certain attitudes. I don't think that same overall opinion would exist for many if you took them from the past and brought them here.

worrying aboot it all, all the problems, can be weighty...crushing...self annihilating...
there are troubles (opportunities? puzzles?) aplenty, enough for everyone to choose from
some aspect to focus on, work at
the Hebrew Bibble can be thought of a narrative of a people coming to grok the uncertainty and dangers of reality, that there is no time to rest, lay back on one's laurels and go "here i finally can stop". the metaphor of g_d's chosen people, still, there are troubles for them.
but no. in the narrative, there are always problems, troubles, issues...
atm, the most troubling evils for me are...the troubles that arise with people being locked into their BS...and global fundamentalisms...

Looking back at my own life, the world has improved a lot since 1940, the year I was born.
The greatest shortcoming of today?
Pretty much the same as it always was: Not knowing who or what we ultimately are.

Anna Karen En's ... reflective bubbles of thought that take off from the Sea of Desire (Mollock Entire) or complete BS ...
The flighty urge to escape starts to overwhelm if you are sensitive to the world that swirls about you as milieu ... even D Suzuki (McLeans?) has come to the conclusion that we have failed in the etude of our limited surrounding ... we just haven't learned about the alchemii or what we think of as relating to things ... we just don't under the subjective rules of fixation with central values ... the corrupt self?
Perhaps when one becomes wise to this you go to the other side of the Celestial Joker (cosmic trickstir)? Now that'd agitate a few ..
