Please don't get me wrong. I am in favor of aid for Haiti. But it leads me to wonder, if citizens, churches, government can dig deep and do this for Haiti, why can't these same institutions erradicate the hunger, day care situations, homeless situations in our own country?
Why can't canada and canadians put the same effort into our problems. Have you ever heard of the government of Canada matching dollar for dollar for the homeless etc? Why can we repond to the haitian appeal from our church pews but close a blind eye to these other problems that surround us daily. Why is the same voice that called for Hatian relief, staying mute on our problems?

When people live far, far away the commitment isn't intimate and demands no follow up or responsibility---just a check.

For most of us Haiti is a one time monetary contribution and the feeling that we did all that we could while we continue to follow the news with interest (myself included).
The emotional involvement is detached and safer I think.
I've often wondered why World Vision doesn't include the children of Canada as someone we could sponsor---or do they and I'm not aware?
