God and Human Beings

My husband just started reading this book, by Voltaire, I flipped through it after he fell asleep and have been enjoying it. He critically, and often humorously examines the attrocities committed in the name of Christianity throughout history. He has been called an atheist- but seems to me, he was an atheist only as far as he rejected the traditions, dogma and petty arguments that led to losses of millions of lives. He called himself a deist. His assessment of the Council of Nicea I found quite funny. He believed God, a Supreme Being, but rejected the Trinity (here I respectfully disagree because I can conceptualize the Trinity in a way that makes sense- the whole being greater than the sum of it's parts, but the parts being crucial to whatever we might understand about the whole- as far as how we interpret the stories and their relevance to our lived experience).

It's a short book, but I haven't read it all yet. Will wait until my husband finishes it. I find myself thinking though- what would Voltaire think about the Bible now- would he see the wisdom in it, like an afterthought- if he had known then that human beings would have advanced so far on reason- yet at the same time, have created the means to wipe ourselves out? Would he recognize the prophetic writing in the Bible not simply as stories not to be taken literally, but insights into what human behaviour can lead to- like self-fulfilling prophesy. I wonder what he would say about God and Human beings, and Christianity, now that the gyre has widened this far.

That's a mouthful. Thoughts? Ideas? Speculation?

Although God may be a supreme being, I think and feel that we are inseparable parts of this being. Simply being is being part of God.

God-consciousness slumbers innately in us. Awakening to the awareness of our godliness, of our at-one-ment with God and with everyone and everything, is a miracle that some of us call "grace."

Some of us believe that grace is dealt out randomly by a capricious God. But I think and feel that grace can be experienced by everyone if we go deeply within and just be. I would be greatly in favour of reviving the aboriginal tradition of the "vision quest." Jesus' 40 Days in the Desert would be the Christian equivalent of the aboriginal vision quest.

In other words, I would  like to see Christians become more mystical and less doctrinal, and make the experience of grace into our foremost goal, the essential element of our faith. A return to the mystical roots of our religion, as it were.

I think most of the historical Christian wrongs pointed out by Voltaire are due to absolutist and dogmatic zeal. I can't imagine anyone who has experienced grace committing any atrocities.

Amazing Grace, eh?smiley

Its a given ... some find it a blessing soma curse ... for wisdom is something they didn't wish to know about ... interfered with their natural desires to scro' everything else ... like a jack daw/dah wheeling around a car case ... a moving nut?

Most people that don't believe in an infinite ideal ... can't envision us moving thro' ID ... you know ... the primal thing ... and thus the mortal Piscine ... as we fish for evidence of lost thoughts ... intruth we are port of it and some insist on having nothing to do with it ... thus the pathos of isolation. Some things got entangled tho' in the descent ... and realize something is a pew ... that's the ceder ... initiated by hoer moans ... another Taurus altogether ... as papal bull ...

They don't believe in essences causing havoc .. so things  become altered in a traditional stance! Now that's stoic ... causing eddies and dissonace in the flowing stream ... of moving wisdom ... intelligence in a mimic of DOS?

Some edom right up ... like myths ... other find the abstract difficult to digest as they don't like the thought of IT  ... thus it went ... all bend out of shape ... much like internalized levity ... something you can't speak of to stoics as piled here on earth as Elysium Heresy ... something opposing hate but doesn't know it; as they deny thought about good things and fine Nus ...

Hi Kimmio-- You do understand that sum things in GODS Word will not be understood till the end time.  Mr Voltaire was born a frenchman. 1694--Past away  in  1778.We do know that was not the end time.  This may be also why you would used a word like gyre. To mean I believe the great changes man has made. There are many here who talk about books writen many years ago . This is one of the problems I find with them. Unless they are coming from GOD. who Lives in all times. God Bless--airclean33

Does God as the word live in all times ... soewhat altered to fit the space, time and light of the situation ... which if you look about God's wisdom is dearly needed in light of the excess emotions ... which appear to have caused thoughtfulness to take flight ...

Perhaps why it's so dark out there ... from the Elysium perspective of a lightened heaven ... why Christ became a subtle thing of plasma-like unseens ... because mortals didn't wish to know ...

Relax AC ... they'll get over it as all things pas and the fog of emotions part ... then we're gone ... into the Zoan where strayed thoughts reside ...

One should always look on the lighter side where the solar wind separates the emotional sorts ... the effect of the cosmological constant on grave-ID things ... a concept too large for mortalized beans ... which can alas sprout ... and voice vert egos ... of a superior sort! Sort of ethical uprights supporting balance, fraternity and freedom of a respectful type!

Gyre is actually a reference to a poem written in the early 1900's by Yeats, called The Second Coming, and the word gyre means 'spiral vortex'. He thought he was seeing the beginning of the end, 200 years ago. And maybe he was, but maybe he was seeing the beginning of something else. Just never can tell- even though you think you believe you can. But Voltaire, the Frenchman, had a few good insights, AC, in retrospect. We can learn something about the future by looking at the past, and what people thought. It's not as though nothing happened between Biblical times until now. There's a lot of human history, and Christianity's record has not been stellar. Not that I expect that you'll check them out or anything. It's alright. I wasn't expecting that you would. But maybe others have read his book.

Gyre, or vortex is like DOS laid flat out (iron'd) enough to make your head spin ... if only we could get the human head form started it does work well as being overly emotional bi-times ... magneto-eclectic forces like Maxwellian Hammer with Impulse ...

Would that create head aches? Some say that pathè, like pathos is suffering ... the pain of learning anything ... religious studies indicate that god's people would sooner not know ... they can't carry anything burning ... can't figure out how to function without hurting selves ... takes a tolle on people with heads ... headless types are OK here and now ... yet the pious can't figure that people haven't been taught these things as religious authority said they souldn't know (Prin. of Heiros Gamma) that is found to be contageous by means of Mirror Neurons that neurologists argue may or may not exist as theologians argue over the existence of the thinking process (known as' sole). In the confusion satyr took over as a beta way of learning don-Queis ... and the blow comes as a KISS Prin. that diminishes thought to the point of oblivion!

Some are left wondering where it went! It is now an abstraction silly ... as the prior thing is now incomplete ... something to look for in the future. The only thing that carries over is the word ... by strange medium ... the Juda'ns called this anonymous ... like an unnamed idealism .. they couldn't tag IT as it was larger than them. Avarice led them to decide to deny it ... and thus it wasn't ... what some people can't believe as less than nothing ... thoughts that are negative as a constructive criticism?

It's enough to drive thoughts into subtle space ... sort of a volutional medium ... like living with a crank! Those that don't like dissonance from the population in pain would thus deny wisdom of such pain ... the obliteration of painful thoughts .. creating oblivion ... a place to bury intelligence for some far out soul to dig ...

ALDO, as old people loose IT ... does the past intellect get picked up elsewhere by people prying into the occult? It's enough to create a dark filmy thing ... like a psychic Shadow ... enough to blow the mind of those prone to fear and anger. The bible does say something about fear doesn't it ... about 366 times ... vast repeats that mortals wouldn't notice until a type of gathering ... a gravid process ... which is then scattered in de light ... just to make demos people in the beyond (myth) giggle!

Perhaps why those that hate thought, knowledge and wisdom keep me isolated from their heads ... hard to get thro' ... stoics! Is that why they call eM hard shuols ...tough ridges in space ... like RIP'rs in the quantum veld?

If truth is not acceptable when living in the land where lies are preferred ... tell a good myth instead as satire ... lyres hate the daemons as they are competition! In this dimension mistruth would prefer to stand alone ... so there it lies ... fla'toute ... like Ba Toute ... the depressed soul? Right into negative space ... imaginining something totally different to cause scourges to those that hate change ...

The gyre in the poem THE SECOND COMING by W.B. Yates is an upward vortex. The falcon, because she is flying upward in an ever-widening spiral, can no longer hear the falconer. And, because the connection between falconer and falcon is severed, "Things fall apart, the centre cannot hold. Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world."

The Spiral Dynamics by Ken Wilber and others is a different kind of upward spiral, not a vortex but more like DNA. It is the spiral of personal, societal, cultural, and institutional evolution or development. In it the centre is not lost but carried forward and upward as the spiral advances. The goal of this spiral is to acknowledge the validity of every step along the spiral as a necessary learning experience, and learn from it, and, ultimately, achieve union between falconer and falcon.

Thus, in a manner of speaking, the spiral of the Spiral Dynamics is the antithesis or antidote to Yates' gyre.

but a gyre is not merely a spiral....not sure the falcon or falconer have an antidote.... by the way who is the falcon and who is the falconer, I wonder....

I think, in Yeats' poem, the falconer is God, and the falcon is man, straying ever-farther away from God.

The Spiral Dyamics, as a metaphor, express man's union with God as the ultimate goal.

....perhaps you and I are falconers and falcons....in sctipture Christ speaks of the sheep knowing the shepards voice...or not. I read Yeats as saying the world is spinning out of control in all things and the more it spins the less it hears... c
Centralized beauracrcies, e.g. France have increased unabated for a thousand years, science and its beaurcracy just as much... all the while Yeat's observation seems to stand... things that matter fall apart... Voltaire would have no end of fun were he about these days...

Is a double vortex like Caduces or spiritual (Ka'd) Uses that go both ways? This could create balance or scattered intellect ... dis emmanated wisdom beyond the mortal as a myth to reach for? Things that stele like manifestations wouldn't wish to know as upright in a lying land ... flat out in a social system built on satyrs ... th'eM being po'lye interpreted! Thus pro-life-ration ... depending on how you cut it!

Some would call that glomming for the unreal ... which may be beta'n the presence of too much passion ... a crime without ration according to court rhuemy understandings of some stiffs!

Perhaps there is a wind at play in a vortex or gyre, that is not in spirals or helixes in themselves...

Not sure Yeats dwelt much on which wind was blowing the disintegrative gyre in his poem...but given the times, I think he meant our civilization does not hear the falconer as it it grows and extends it circumference (including its hubris)...

Then there is that fearful symetry at play in Northrup Frye's dealing with William Blake!

The wiles dunked in a secondary  loche (ß' Lake) ... and the scion of the mind goes on still wadi being its support on the fluid side it's media ... some heat required and thus the elish myths ... source of Elysium Heresy to change any of eM? No change allowed ... go ponder that given the evidence if you study ancient tongues ... Classic Linguistics?

Great humour to puddle around in at leasure without some authority telling you how to interpret it! Once you're really into it some cycling will allow for adjustments to the tilde of hed ... a toilet at angle like outhouses at Hollo-weenie ... that gutte feeling when knowing you've been properly had?
