FROM ONE OF MY FAVOURITE MODERN, MYSTICAL POETS. CAN YOU GUESS WHO S/HE IS? (Hint... not necessarily identified as a Christian! Maybe... but maybe not.)
I'm running down the street for joy,
But I have no legs.
I'm singing out in ecstasy,
But I have no throat. I'm seeing glorious visions,
But my eyes are gone.
I'm lifting up me hands in praise
But, guess what?
I have no arms.
What happened to my legs, my throat, my eyes, my arms?
They're all burnt up.
How did I burn them?
In the fire of my desire for You.
What's left of me anyway?
Only the burning desire.
Don't know that one (and too honest to Google for it), but I like it. Watching for someone to post the answer.

Okay, I gave in to my curiousity and tried Google. On three different lines. And I'm not getting anything. So apparently this poem has never been cited online before (or it was in one of the rare sites that isn't indexed in Google) and isn't in any online collections. Now I'm really getting interested. Anyone out there have an idea who Darrel is quoting here?
By the way, my interest isn't just because I like it. It would be a good fit for one of my services on the Four Elements (Fire, natch).

No, I didn't write this one. But I did write one or two on fire.
FLAMES OF PASSION
When flames of passion burn bright,
They destroy with their unholy fire.
But when such passionate flames
Meet fire of holy desire,
Those fires do not destroy,
They purge and purify.
THE WORDLESS WORD
Wordlessly,
By the flame of the Sacred Fire,
She put a rose quartz in his palm.
Wordlessly,
By the flames of the Sacred Fire,
He closed his fist around the stone.
Wordlessly,
By the flames of the Sacred Fire,
The stone throbbed like a living heart;
And their souls melted and merged,
Wordlessly,
In the flames of their Sacred Fire.

I was playing a little joke and did not mean to offend or upset. I wrote the poem. I love poetry and have been writing it for a while. I find it the best means of expressing moods, thoughts and spiritual experiences. This was one of those flights into something very positive, alive and liberating. Its why I believe in mystery and that God is Good and the Universe, despite human efforts to the contrary, is essentially Good.
The poem was inspired by Rumi!
I have moments of elation but also dark pessimism and sadness. The pessimism comes from insight into humanity (including my own humanness) then, I remember ("shirk") the Creator and His/Her Compassion, Majesty, Awe and Power! Wow... !

Darrel,
In my comments, I was playing mind games to try to flush you out. I don't know why, but I desperately wanted to know who the author was. I remarked that the poem was good, not great, but that was sour grapes. In fact, I considered the possibility that you wrote it, but then thought, "Naw, the poem is far too professional to be composed by an ordinary poster." So I apologize because in fact I do think it's a great mystical poem. Would you mind if I read it in church or printed it out as your poem in a church newsletter? I know of no other short poem that better captures the essence of sublime mystical experience. The main reason I wanted to force your hand was because I wanted to print it out with proper attribution. Your secrecy seems totally appropriate now that I realize the poem was not written by someone I've never heard of. I'd wager that very few leaders thought you might have composed it--and that's a compliment!
