These scriptures always make me smile and feel happy. Wisdom in the busiest place in town -"beside the gate", "at the entrance". Lady Wisdom calls out to everyone - you, me, all of us.
And, Wisdom is God's delight.
I find it strange that I remember nothing of these scriptures from years past. Did they come to the forefront with feminist theology,?
Does everyone read them the same way?
can we have a discussion?

Crazyheart - I'm preaching this Sunday. I've been praying, meditating, thinking about the lectionary for a week now and haven't been inspired. But I am attracted to Lady Wisdom. Let's hope someone comes up with some insights on this thread.

...When he appointed the foundation of the earth:
Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;
Rejoicing in the habitable parts of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.
Proverbs 8:29-31
Appearantly, her delights are still with us, because we named ourselves "Homo sapiens," after the Sophia/Sapienta, Goddess of Wisdom.
Actually, we are Homo sapiens sapiens. Doubly sapient?

I think that Wisdom is another manifestation of God - another way of thinking about God - the wisdom of God. I like the way she is portrayed as feminine - we have so many mascline images. I also like the way she is shown as delight - as joy.
In the Trinity we have three ways of thinking about God. But there are so many more - wisdom is one of them. Whenever we try to pin God down to one name, one description, one way of thinking, we limit God. We limit God by our own language, our own terms. So we have to expand; to think of more words, more descriptions, more ways to speak of the various and wonderful aspects of God. Sophie is one of them.

Wisdom is what we do with knowledge.
Knowledge itself is neutral, but can be used for good or evil purposes. Wisdom helps us apply knowledge responsibly, morally, ethically.
Knowledge is analytical. Wisdom is intuitive, unitive, and synthetical.
Knowledge separates; wisdom unites.
Jehovah is the God of Reason, Sophia the Goddess of Intuition. Together they dance harmoniously, each one alone is lonely and incomplete.

Is Wisdom and the Spirit the same thing?
I don't know CH, but I do like the Scripture Song, Wisdom 7 (the Nature of Wisdom) in VU #891.
Passage seems to suggest Wisdom=God=Spirit.

Is anyone preaching on Wisdom for Trinity Sunday?
n/a. We don't have Trinity Sunday. We worship the Trinity every Sunday. I'm a Baptist.

Knowledge is a big pile of information but it's never enough because the pile of potential information is infinite: so it's a sampling and, as a sampling, it is a biased sampling because we seek knowledge from our own rare and unique situation as human beings.
Wisdom is the winnowing of experience, knowledge, insight, narrative and dreams. It is the putting aside of information in search of principles that can lead us to fuller, more complete lives. It recognises our humanity and it limitations in ways that knowledge sometimes does not.
BOTH involve strenuous pursuit and practised discernment. And -- as received -- BOTH come to us highly contaminated with folly, ego, error, intentionality, wishful thinking, distractions and misconceptions. But our lives are tremendously enriched by engagement with both.
But we do have self-destructive tendencies to over-rate our grasp of knowledge and our depth of wisdom. We all need to know more, think more and search more assiduously before the world can rest easy.
