Man gives up food, opting to drink beer Lent. New Trend??

Wow what an interesting way to celebrate Lentsmiley.  Is this something you would do? Would you support people who do this at your church?

A Toronto man has decided to swear off solid foods for 40 days and 40 nights, relying on beer as his main source of sustenance until Palm Sunday.

Beer blogger and web designer Chris Schryer, 33, has given up food for Lent, a religious tradition observed by many Christian denominations that commemorates the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Since Ash Wednesday (March 5), Schryer has not consumed any solid foods or "unclear" liquids, such as dairy, protein shakes and smoothies.
At mealtimes, Schryer sits down with a bottle of beer, while his wife and two young children eat regular food.

"I'm feeling fine," Schryer told CTV Toronto in a phone interview. "I'm quite impressed with the impact that the beer has had

Initially he wasn't very vocal about his fast, but the reverend asked him to speak at his Anglican church, Church of St. Aidan's in the Beach on Queen Street East.

"Everyone was really supportive," he said, though initially some members of the parish joked he'd be "half in the bag" during church services.

He says he's also been accused of alcoholism since going public about his Lent challenge, especially since he frequently writes about drinking on his beer review blog. But Schryer brushes off those criticisms.

I have not done so personally Alex.

Interesting idea this guy has ... hopefully he will not have alcohol withdrawal effects once Easter arrives!

A bit of an aside - was beer around in Jesus time?  We read of wine, but I don't think beer.

It would be more biblical to go on a white wine fast.  I think this guy will be OK after Easter one has to stop drinking to go through withdrawal.

I'm curious Rev John, if you don't mind sharing - what the Sabbath?

Hi Beloved,

what the Sabbath?

From the Creation account in Genesis 2

Genesis 2:3 wrote:

Then God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.

The Sabbath is the last day of the week and a day of rest.

The reckoning of days in Genesis 1 is slightly off from our typical thinking.  The narrative reads (in the account of each day of creation)  "There was evening and there was morning . . ."

To reflect that I measure the Sabbath as sunset Friday to Sunset Saturday.  Friday's supper is a little early and Saturday's supper is a little later.

Grace and peace to you.

John

If the lass of the house can't cook from sunset to sunset on TGIF ... what can she do in between?

Why Sunday was made for coming down ... so the high collapsed ---Samson (mental chaos) when you've been thoroughly inscensed by scro'n and don't acknowledge it ... animal instinct? One must mus' upon that ...

Is that like a phoqah up (folk) in heaven? In reality the population has to assign people to all actions like demi-gogues ... as the powers take all emotions and thoughts as personelle ... thus psyche and sophy as flighty gendre ... when ones come the other goan ... logos!

If you can't deal with reality ... abstract like Mama Mios ... makes a gutte myth until the next coming ...

You think I'am crazy! Did you ever look around yah? Basis of the 10% roué ... if you really stretch it ...
