New Beginnings

Well, today is the day our Church will begin a new journey.

Our minister of many years is retiring and for many, myself included, it is a sad time, for this is the departure of a much loved, gentle soul whose compassion was the greatest teacher.

Today we will hear the JNAC's decision.  The policies and procedures will be described.  A name will be given.  But the question will remain, for a while, whether we begin to walk a new road.

So... it will be a day of competing emotions; excitement, anticipation, fear, sadness and hopefully reflection and renewal.

All that we need now is faith and maybe a few words of prayer....

We can start all over - in the new beginning
We can learn, we can teach
We can share the myths the dream the prayer
The notion that we can do better
Change our lives and paths
Create a new world and

Start all over

And the best news is you don't have to lose the best things the previous times offered, in order to embrace the new possibilities. You can honour the past, and not be limited by it. It can be a solid foundation upon which you will build the next addition. And God will be with you on this holy adventure.

Two new days for both of us.

We went through this several years ago and unfortunately the congregation has chosen to be limited by the past.  So we go to what is likely our last service at this church.  We have changed, they have not.

I wish you all te best, it is a sad time, but remember the good times and rush boldly into the future.

Thank you gentlemen, and Russ I hope your future is equally as bold.

Our new minister sounds like a great fit; people I admire for their wisdom speak very highly of her so the day ended on an optimistic note.  The vote was unanimous approval.

I should note this is only the 3rd time this congregation has gone through this process in more than 40 years.  It is has a history of incredible stability - yet one filled with a diverse cross section of the larger community including a number of curmudgeonly old individualists like me.  We all manage to get along quite well, all things considered.

As they say the proof will be in the pudding (whatever the heck that means) and we now have to wait til November.

Here's to the future, may it always be a pleasant surprise!
