Is anyone interested or already involved in the use of hand drums and other percussion instuments in worship services.What kind of music would you like to see happening in worship services?
Hand drumming is of interest to Holly UC Mission. As we grow we hope a drummer will be led to us. I will be taking an intro course this winter. Do you drum in worship?

Hi Christina,
Yes, I am just starting to introduce hand drumming into our congregational worship at the church to which I was recently called. I have been leading Drum Circles since 1992 but only recently decided to pursue more regular persusssion in worship services. I came across a neat little book just a few days ago that is partuclarly great for United Churches interested in this: RHYTHM SPIRIT by Jan Laurie (who tours with Ron Klusmeier) available at WWW. MUSIKUS.COM
It gives a list of several songs from VOICES UNITED and MORE VOICES that work well with drums (djembe) and small percussion

I've been going to youth rallies, events and conferences in Saskatchewan about four years now. There is almost always a guest, or somebody who has gotten a hold of a hand drum. And with our Conference, and at the recent 39th General Council, there were First Nations drummers as well. I love everytime we get something like that.

Would a liberal, outspoken, justice oriented 20 something be comfortable at your church? Where in Ottawa are you?

well, as a member of drummerboys congregation, i can say that yes, you would be welcome... he's a great drummer and a wonderful minister. i always enjoy trying to make him laugh from where i sit in the choir loft. so far i've only got him once, i'll have to try harder.
