repeal of DADT - Don't Ask Don't Tell

I am placing this in this forum because, imo, it is another step in the journey for our GLTBQ brothers and sisters.

It is reported that the repeal of this bill will be on the President's desk next week for signing.

It is a long road - but it is step by step.

What do you feel about this?

I feel it's one more step towards equality.  The idea that gays and lesbians should keep their mouths shut about their personal lives while all the straight people around them can talk about their families and show pictures of them is nauseating.  If there are any problems in the military due to openly gay/lesbian soldiers, the problem is with the people who won't accept them.  Make it clear that no harassment will be toleratred and have stiff consequences for anyone who doesn't listen.

I cried tears of joy and also tears of sadness when I heard the news!

Tears of joy because finally civil rights were upheld.

Tears of sadness because it was necessary to pass such a law in a land where freedom is supposed to be so precious.    More tears because a military is needed and that means violence.   Yes.... I do understand a military is necessary ...its just sad that it is...

Hugs

Rita

DADT repeal passed but by a dismal 2/3ds.

The losers are already threatening a reversal when they get back into power.

As you can see, there is still much work to do.
