perfectly safe, Matt says, sure... and then I need to explain theological silliness all over again, and listen to him tell people at church what mommy watches at home!! sure.
Nah- we've had the "Why is bobblehead Jesus funny at home but not everyone thinks so?" discussion, which I handled very well. I have enlightened kids, but step by step!

Yes, the true meaning of Easter.
Luke 18:32
He will be handed over to the Gentiles. They will mock him, insult him, spit on him, flog him and kill him.
It continues to this day, and from the most unlikely of sources.
He did so much more… than stopping a puck.

I don't. I'm just not surprised when I see deeply conservative theology coming out of an American source. They are a more conservative nation, after all. (And not all of them are south of the 49th, while a number of Canadians are...)
And OK, prove me wrong. Demonstrate your sense of humour.

So,
You and your family are sleeping away one night (obviously unaware) and some cab driver is going by and notices your house is on fire. He runs in and saves all of you, gets severely burned in the process and dies, but thanks to modern medicine – is revived.
Months later, an event to honour the cab driver is arranged but some of your buddies made a video that trivializes the sacrifice he made on your behalf. The cab driver is portrayed dancing around half naked in his prancing shoes and gets burned in some comical way. Yuks all around making the video.
Would you show the video at an event to honour the cab driver? Is it funny?
Are you going to be showing the video as part of your Easter service? When you meet Jesus, are you going to have a copy of that video under your arm, and say “Dude, you got to see this, you are going to split your side.”
When is mocking God appropriate? You mock an entire nation, 10 times the size of yours, because you believe they have a united belief that Jesus is their salvation?
You don’t think I have a sense of humour? Come on, I think you are very, very funny.

i totally would!! jesus is a funny guy, he would be all over it. besides, i don't believe in atonement theology, so your whole 'cab driver' analogy doesn't apply.
Saul_now_Paul wrote:

we're not mocking god, saul still saul, we're mocking people who claim to be followers of him. like you, for instance. we're mocking you.
we're obviously doing a pretty good job, too!! you sound pissed!!

Taking a step back from hyperbole, according to the recent 2009 American Religious Identification Survey
The percentage of Americans claiming no religion, which jumped from 8.2 in 1990 to 14.2 in 2001, has now increased to 15 percent. The number of atheists doubled over the same time period. Christians are now only 76% of the American population. Twenty-seven percent of Americans do not expect a religious funeral at their death. Only 60% of the population believe in a personal God as defined by the world's three monotheistic religions. I would not call this a nation which is united in their belief that Jesus is their salvation. It is the position of a majority which is rapidly shrinking.

I love playing with stats. From this you can infer that some of the people who call themselves Christian do not actually believe in a personal God. Some of the self-professed Christians do not plan on having a religious funeral. Throw in the related stat that only between 18 and 40% of Christians actually attend church regularly, the monolith of a united Christian Culture starts to show its weakness. If only it was as strong as we wished it was.
You liberals aren't happy unless you are changing everything.
Grace and peace to you.
