Looking at the scriptures and seeing that Jesus went off by himself many times and encourages others to retreat., if Jesus was around to day would he be able to withstand our busy way of life - no seashores or hilltops outside the city gates. Do you think he would retrieve messages on his Blackberry or would he urge all of us to throw cell phones, blackberries and similar devices away?
80 kilo winds here. have to have something to think about.

Then again, all of his sound bytes could be imbedded at Wondercafe.

While I absolutely do plead ignorance here, is there anything to indicate that he might? (I'm assuming there is; else I'd expect something more along: "...or would he urge all of us to give our cell phones, blackberries and similar devices to the poor?").

was life any less busy two millennia ago? We, or at least most of us, can choose to take quiet time. for most of history, it required a constant effort just to maintaim existence.
I think Jesus would counsel us to take whatever time we need, great or small, to ensure that we can hear that still small voice/recharge our spiritual batteries. For some that might mean multitasking on a blackberry while posting to Wondercafe. For others, it might mean a week of silence and solitude.

rotf! nice Witch :)
I agree with what GR said, - if he was here, he'd be well adjusted to the din, but I think he's still a charismatic performing introvert, so he'd find his way to a Muskoka dock or something sometime.
I dont' think he'd have one (just a cool but outdated laptop). But Peter would be a Blackberry addict. And Mary's phone would be shiny purple and take pictures!

IF we extend the SCripture story forward Jesus would not carry a blackberry simply because he would be born into the vast majoity of the world's population that could not afford it.

I must agree with blackbelt: Telepathy was the way Jesus operated, and telepathy is the way of the future. The Second Coming will happen when we all have mastered telepathy.

I attended the National Prayer Breakfast a few months ago here in Ottawa. Ignatieff read from a Bible which had been given to him by his grandfather. Stockwell Day stood up and said he would be 'reading from the family Blackberry'. He read the scripture in both English and French off the screen. Welcome to the future baby!

Why would God Incarnate need a Blackberry?

For the same reason that God incarnate's words were written down- so the Word could become incarnate in our lives.

Greetings!
I think Jesus would live and move in the world, and it's technology, at any given time, in which he was.
In the biblical Jesus, he did the things that others around him were doing at the time (as well as a few other things like the retreating for quiet time). He rode a donkey and used a boat, as did others - if he were around in the 1800/1900's he might have driven a covered wagon, rode a horse, or train, or steamship. If he were here in the 21st century he'd fly in a jet, ride in a car, perhaps even take a jaunt in a speedboat.
So . . . if Jesus were here today would he have/use a blackberry? Well, as some have suggested, might not be a "Blackberry", but yes, I think he would use some type of modern technology communication device.
To me, Jesus would speak to the people in the time of the people.
But, like others, he would also need to get away for quiet, meditative, prayerful, restorative time, to continue in his ministry.
Hope, peace, joy, love ...

I have been thinking about thos overnight and "yes" .
, I think Jesus would carry a blackberry or something similar.
I am thinking about this is the context of our busy lives and I am thinking about care-givers. Folk who have loved ones in hospital or are looking after them at home. They need rest and respite because if we don't look after ourselves physically and spiritually, we can not look after any one else.
In the church, especially, meetings, busy seasons - run off our feet. The story is told of a church group that was going to a retreat house for rest. But when two nuns went by and looked in the door, one asked the other what was going on. She had noticed the walls covered by paper with notes written all over them. The other nun said, "I think they call it a retreat."
I think Jesus would carry a blackberry but I also think that he would know when to turn it off.

Mmmmm, I can't quite picture it. Jesus with a blackberry? How would he have afforded one, with he and all of his followers eschewing worldly goods?
I picture him blogging at the public library or internet cafes, whenever he happened to be in the neighbourhood.
The Roman officials, on the other hand, they would have all had them as part of the benefits of working for the government. Herod would have wanted to keep close tabs.

"Jesus would not carry a blackberry."
He would carry an iPhone. That way, he could pull up Bible verses whenever he wanted to, or check the weather and the New York Times.

He would carry some kind of phone. We even know what the number would be: Jeremiah 33:3 !
(Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know. )

"...Give our phones, blackberries and similar devices to the poor?"
Personally, I don't think so. Thinking about this in a more logic sense: What would a homeless person do with a blackberry?
Sell it, obviously if possible, but then what? Then that blackberry goes to someone ELSE. I think Jesus, being the messenger and teacher he was, would encourage the use of devises used to communicate. What better way to talk about God to a friend on the other side of the world!

...If that's true than I'm sure tutors worldwide would be more than eager to teach Jesus how to read

Jesus' primary mode of expressing himself was speaking to the masses. BBs excel at personal communication but not so much at speaking to the masses. So, obviously, he'd be more likely to be either blogging or twittering . Perhaps he'd be doing so from a BB, but more likely, as others mention, his socio-economic status would force him to rely on some kind of public Internet access.
Mendalla
PS. And to the question of why someone needs one, I've never understood why someone would need/want an email enabled smartphone for personal use. I survived just fine without one during my vac. last week. However, my company has just deployed a fleet of them to our field supervisors because there is a well-defined need for them to stay in touch and be able to receive various information on a timely basis and email via the BBs is a very efficient way for them to do it. I carry one as well (I work in IT) and it's a godsend when I'm on the road. So, I can see it as a tool for work, but not so much for personal, everyday use.

Jesus wouldn't carry a Blackberry. Jesus would carry a Samsung Gravity. It's got a great camera, and slide-out qwerty keyboard.
