Genties & ladlemen
I just have to share this with you. On June 7, the sun let rip a HUGE explosion. And we schmart scientific primates caught the event.
Click here for a bit of a blurb on it and TWO beautiful and awe some videos of the actual event in visible light and UV.
They say to expect possible aurora in the night skies Thurs.
Each second the sun uses up 15 billion metric tons of itself. The Earth gets a mere 0.000000045% of the sun's energy and that is enough to power our whole biosystem.

More things keep happening ... I got this e-mail today (June 22) .... the maps on the website are pretty cool - see if you might take a look at the Northern Lights from where you live ... cloudy here tonight ... bah ...
.................
Sorry, we made a mistake on the dates. Activity could begin in Europe
and later in North America on Wednesday night the 22nd of June. Watch
the short-term forecast on the auroral forecast website.
A solar event occurred on the 21st at 0300 UTC.
A mach 7.4 shock will reach Earth 2011 06 22 1920Z
total propagation time 40h 35m
This means that auroral activity in the northern hemisphere may be
visible in North America and in Europe south of 55deg N Lat starting
on Wed the 22nd and Tasmania and Southern New Zealand on the night of
the 23rd, if the shock is followed by a large enough disturbance.

Thank goodness we're so far away :3
Thanks for the heads-up carolla! :3 I've been going outside every-so-often, but it looks like a weather front is currently moving in, so the skies are like quilted cloth.

Inanna - I checked the website and it looks like we won't be able to see much on the west coast - if anything at all.
