Favorite places

Pilgrim's thread about places people would like to visit got me thinking about the places I've been.  I'm no great traveller but I have had a couple of memorable trips. I think that it would be great to hear about other's trips.  Here's my list.

Newfoundland:  The ghost town of the outport that my mom grew up in.  Grosse Mourn National Park, one of the most beautiful places I've ever been.

Across Canada by train:  It seemed like the mountains hung on the horizon for ages and then we were right in the middle of them.  The abosolute pleasure of seeing the grass of the prairies after almost 2 whole days of rocks and trees and lakes.  Gaining an understanding of the vastness of our country.

UK:  I went twice at 9 and 12.  I got to visit Stonehenge when you could still walk among the stones and touch them.  The museums, art galleries and historic places in London were amazing.  Got to see the King Tut exibit, very exciting.  The sadness when my father pointed out a place where a town used to be which was then a large dammed lake.

Somegirl - I would have to agree with you about the UK. I have also been to Stonehenge - it must have been incredible to be able to walk among the stones and to touch them. I would add to your list the churches and the incredible theatre productions in London`s West End. The Millenium Eye is also worth a visit. It was also wonderful to visit the town that my Dad grew up in northern Scotland. It`s well worth buying a train pass there and hopping on and off at a variety of places.

One of my other favourite places is a lot closer to home - and somewhere that several people on this board will also know: Naramata Centre. I love the setting and the variety of programs that are offered there. I worked there for two summers and attended Winter Session there and I met so many interesting and inspiring people that I never would have met anywhere else. Incredible!
