Favourite Taste of Summer

What is your favourite taste of summer?

After spending hours walking along the train tracks by Kal Lake in the blistering heat then diving deep into the multicoloured waters, marvelling at the fish, then opening up your thermos...and trekking all the way back to Vernon...

The first sip of that water...nothing else like it in the world

So long as it's a wild blueberry. Cultivated blueberries are no thank you.

Ice cold water! I freeze my water bottle overnight and then enjoy the taste of the water as it melts - delicious!

Yep. That gets my vote as well. Although, since living in Manitoba, I've also got a taste for saskatoons.

A freshly picked heritage tomato with a little salt & pepper and a drizzle of olive oil.

(Oh, and I picked up a golden raspberry plant in my travels a couple of years ago; a bumper crop is ripening now, and wow, are they good...)

The place on Venables? That place was on my bus route. I pined for it- but didn't get out. Haven't been there in a couple of years.Basil Pernod, and Chocolate n' chili pepper gelato (italian ice cream) are pretty good too. Never had lavender and honey. Sounds like it would taste kind of like Thrills gum- which I could never get used to.

Still- it's fun to try designer flavours if you get a chance- but strawberries, and I am going to say, regular Neopolitan icecream (because I can't choose between chocolate, vanilla and strawberry) is just as good and easier to find!

Had corn on the cob the other day- street vendors were selling it to people heading to watch our annual fireworks festival- bbq'd in the husk (which I don't think I'd ever had before. Maybe it was parboiled or steamed first. Not sure.) it had cilantro and sour cream slathered on it. They called it "fiesta corn". It was ok. I still prefer just plain butter and pepper on it. Or even just pepper and a bit of salt. Often, the "foodie" versions aren't as good as the standby comfort foods, I find. But it was well worth a try.

It's actually really good bbq'd in the husk (and easy to do). You peel back the husk carefully so that you can de-silk the ear, then wrap it back up, securing it with string. Soak for 1/2 an hour or so in cold water, then bbq until outer husk is black and corn is tender. It's a nice combo of steamed and roasted. But then, yes, with just butter salt & pepper.

Another corn on the cob fan here. Forgot about it when I posted earlier then had it for lunch later that day.

Corn on the cob is delicious; however, I am with BettetheRed re tomatoes.

Toasted tomatoe sandwich, yum.

Corn on the cob a close second...

Kimmio,

this gelato that i had was at a new place for me, dolce gelato in white rock.

i got to introduce my sweetie to the wonders of wading in the sand flats & seeing her first ever teeners flat fish :3

(and we both, sometime much later, both got to laugh watching Red 2 -- especially the bits with Helen Mirren as an MI6 assassin..."show me something" then she sprays bullet karateka as the car she is in pirouettes gracefully through the chaos...very over the top & absurd movie...a bit like Monty Python with a huge budget...)
