How about some fun.
I walk with a friend of mine everyday – and for some reason she has decided that I am to play at her funeral…not sure how we got on the topic. Anyway, she talks about it once in a while….she mentioned yesterday that she had 12 songs that she would like played.
To make a long story short – she told me she was getting cremated. So I was trying to think of some appropriate music choices that might celebrate the event.
When I got home my partner thought I was nuts, but we had a good chuckle…let’s see what songs you can come up with ….
Smoke Gets In Your Eyes
Knock Three Times on the ….. if you want me.
Burn baby burn
And now the end is drawing near
Come on baby light my fire

My friend and son-in-law died ten days ago. His daughters decided to have him cremated. Today we are having a celebration of his life at our house.
But I'm not going to play any of the music you guys suggested! "Come on baby light my fire," "feeling hot, hot, hot," and the like? People, please! That would be too morbid! I think I'll play some nice classical music.

I am so sorry to hear this Arminius. What is funny, is never humorous after something like this happens.

Thanks, crazyheart.
After the initial shock and tears, we spent a lot of time together, and have almost achieved that serene stage of acceptance.

At the celebration later today, I'll play the Missa Solemnis, either the one by Beethoven, or the one by Mozart, or maybe Mozart's Requiem.

Then my expressed intention to have "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" by Monty Python played at my funeral might be a bad idea?
And, yes, I am serious about that.
Mendalla
(PS. for those not into Python, it is sung at the end of Life of Brian by a bunch of Brian's "followers" being crucified by the Romans)

No, Mendalla, it's not a bad idea.
Whatever comforts those who are left behind is good.
Funeral music is for those who are left behind, not for the one who is dead. Or is it? If the person who died had a macabre sense of humour, and wants something played at his funeral that grosses everyone out, should it be played, to honour the wish of the deceased?
I don't know. I don't think I would.
