going shopping

One of the things that has happened since I started losing weight has been discovering that my clothes no longer fit.  Suddenly I find myself a size smaller!  So I bit the bullet and went shopping in the city for replacements.

I bought three pairs of pants, 4 t-shirt style things, two short sleeved blouses and 2 long sleeved shirts.  Nothing 'fancy', they are what one of my friends describes as Basic Housewife Fashion - Easy care, wash and wear, you can wear them anywhere!

My partner just aked "How much?", so I worked it out.  Total original price (ignoring odd cents) was $430.  There were sales on in the stores and I actually only paid $191, which means each garment was less than $20.  Pretty successful day I think!. Doubly so bearing in mind that the pants, blouses and shirts would have been considered far too expensive at the full price (from Eddie Bauer and pefect for the camping I hope to do this summer - finally won't be obliged to look 'raggy at the campground').

Do you have any successful experiences with shopping?

Glad it went well Kay!  I find I'm usually more successful if I don't need something.  When I need something specific I can't find what I'm looking for with a good fit, even with a high price!

Sounds like a great expedition Kay!   I mostly shop for stuff on sale ... love seeing what I didn't spend LOL!

My current pet peeve is all the stuff with blingy rhinestones on them - I really don't want to wear that!!  I went looking for something 'springy' the other day ... no success.

I find it's a bit of a challenge to sometimes find stuff that I consider fashionable, but age appropriate -  I'm not in the trendy young adult range, but I don't consider myself a senior either!  Eddie Bauer is pretty good - I do love their t-shirts!  Thanks for reminding me about that!

Congratulations on achieving two goals - a weight loss, and, a successful bargain-based shopping excursion.

Enjoy your new duds, and your healthier lifestyle.

I went into a Marks wear house and picked out a sweater that was on sale. When I went to the till there was an additional ten dollars off. Ya gotta love that!

Hey KaytheCurler

Congratulations on buying a smaller size, that is so good.  Awesome needs.

Great deals -- my best ones have been in the US at the Boston store.  They have great yellow dot sales.

(Beloved: I was at Mark's this weekend too.  Bought a new rain coat.  Sadly, forgot it on the coat rack at home instead of bringing it on this trip...drag!)

My partner pointed out that if I continue to lose weight I'll need to buy more clothes in a while.   Darn -   I like my new stuff!

What I find weird about shopping for clothes is that it seems to be so contrary.  When I have money I can't find  anything I want to buy.  When I don't have money the stores are stuffed with wonderful garments ad bargains that I'd enjoy owning.

It helps if I don't have much in the way of ideas about what I want.  This time I just wanted some pants - maybe including a grey pair - and some tops.  So I wandered around in likely stores looking for things that caught my eye and was lucky enough to find lots of sale items.

There seem to be fewer stores carying clothing lines for 'shorties', and I fit inthat group.  I quit going to stores that ddn't have things for shorter women several years ago but have now accepted that buying new pants means doingsome hemming.  Bah humbug.

There is a store called Zacks. Not too pricey, has a rebate card program and they have a sister store that is beside them ini malls, forget its name that is for petite.

Interesting. I have gone into Zacks, tried on my size, felt slightly off, gone into the other, same thing fits great. Just a difference of cut.

This store is in the Cloverrdale mall in toronto, 427 And dundas

Sounds good lastpointe.  Is it a chain? I haven't heard of it and Toronto is a plane ride away!

Shopping in genral is one of the things in my life that is becoming increasingly difficult.  Less selection and almost no service in some stores.

And these days you have to try everything on, because each make, and each store seems to have just slightly different sizing and fit.  In one store I might take a medium in a t-shirt and in another an extra-small.

Used to be a Zack's Outlet store in Waterloo and I had good luck there, but store has closed.  Think there is still a Zack's in Conestoga Mall, but last time I was there (at least 2 years ago) not impressed and no good sales.

I purchased a really nice winter coat at Sears after Christmas at 50% off, and last week a spring jacket at 50% off.  Makes one wonder about the mark up on clothing when a store can afford such discounts.

I've had some good luck with TanJay and Alia.  Go to the online store and find out what is on sale, then order it through a local store then I don't have to pay shipping.

Hey Gecko, I used to shop at Zack's years ago when first starting out in work, then when I went looking it had gone from classic lines to different lines and I wasn't impressed.  It then resurfaced in cambridge as an outlet and I went there a few times and picked up stuff, but, then disappeared.  It is good to hear they are online, and have a presence in TO, as I think it had possibilities, just buyer issues for a while.

congrats on teh good prices.

I am tactile.  i need to feel stuff.

Oh Zack's!  I remember them from Kitchener!  I have a vague sense that's where they started out.   Thanks for reminding me about the one in Cloverdale lastpointe - I haven't been there for ages & will make a trip.  Do you know the bakery in that mall?  Open Window I think it's called - makes dreamy orange chiffon cake!  But I digress!!
