The map can be found : HERE
I used a thumbtack for my church, and a balloon for me, and a picnic table for Five Oaks.
To show more of Canada, or the world, use the sliding scale on the left side. You can drag the image around via moving your mouse. So, zoom out until you see your area on the map, then move the map until your area is in the centre, then zoom in...adjust, zoom in, adj, until you see your area.
I have made it public, and also able to be editted by the public.
I'm not really a huge fan of public, but, this will allow you to edit. We'll see how it goes. If it causes problems, then, I will make it not public, and maybe receive info from people.
To add yourself
Go to the map above.
Log into google (Create account if you dont' have one)
Ensure map is in edit mode
Ensure map is not in street-view mode.
Find where you want to add yourself. Remember, I recommend you dont' add your home.
You will see the cute icons on the upper left part of the map. Drag them to where you want to add and then go wild with your notes.
Note: if you don't want to add it, but, would like your information posted, you can send me a wondermail and I will do it.

I got the page, and it showed the pins, but no map - all grey area. Now, I know we try to be good listeners and not be black & white thinkers, but I would hope a wondercafe map is more than GREY.

hmmm....
i was editting it birthstone, wonder if that is why.
Google map is global, musicsooths, so you can add your pin whereever you are. I have adjusted instructions above to hopefully help.

ps. birthstone -- change to the earth map view -- much more colourful, and removes those government lines which divide us.

I have just changed my marker to a pin, and I have marked a spot that everyone ought to visit. If you take me up on the offer, please let me know. I will join you!

I'm on it - well, my local grocery store so if you find yourself in Lion's Head grocery, particularly the chips & snacks aisle let me know and I'll meet you!

I marked my favorite lake beach (although I like the ocean ones more). We go there alot in the summer, execpt last summer when it was closed for most of the summer to get ready for some paddling compitition.

I"m so ashamed. I can't for the life of me figure out how to do this. Even with the instructions, I don't see how to change from street view, find out if I'm in edit mode, add my info, or find the cute icons.
I'm logged in, so that isn't it.
I'm feeling like a bag of hammers....

I managed to stick a thumbtack in... didn't hear any screams, so I didn't poke anyone. As far as I can tell it's a reasonable aaproximation of the town where I live. Hard to tell, though. Couldn't get the zoom to work all that well

Ninjafaery, you have to create a google account if you don't already have one and log in before you can mark the map. Then a little blue tag will show up on the left of the screen. When you stick it where you want to put it and it will prompt you to write what you want. Use your username as the subject and then right a descpription below. If you use firefox click the link in one tab then open the wondercafe and go to this thread in another tab. It will make it much easier to follow the directions. It took me awhile to figure it out.

I just added a few more for myself. I feel like I have a lot on there but my life is divided between a lot of different places at the moment it seems.

ok, NF, let me see if I can walk you through it.
1. click on map link above.
you want to be looking at the map so that you can see on your left frame the wondercafe words, and on the right the map.
2. log into google using "signin". Note: may already be logged on. note2. May need .to create accounts.
3. on the left frame, where you see everyone's words listed, click on "edit"
4. you shold now see a hand sign, a blue "dot",and a jagged line icon on the right frame's upper left corner. If you do not, then click on the word "map" for standard street map. it doesn't work via streetview or earth mode.
5. centre in on where you want to be on the map using the "hand" icon.
6. click on the blue icon and then place it on the map. A box will open with text for you to enter. you can get fancy & change the image or text.
7. Click ok on the box.
8. click done (in the left frame)
** edit..instructions amended based on the wisdom of those who have shared the points below.

We're getting to it. What's the rush?
You Easterners... always rushing around.....
And yes, Alberta is an Eastern Province. There's only one Western Province

Just a note. When you're done adding your placemark, make sure you click the "done" button before you go exploring, or you risk moving someone else's placemark.

I'll point Omni here and get him to take care of his Google map pin. (He's been lurking lately.)

That's a good idea. I mean there is a whole lot more north of here............even though you folks in Southern Ontario find that hard to believe.

Pilgrims Progress
Posted on: 05/04/2010 18:24
Bugger, Bugger, Bugger!!!!
I 've got to go to exercise class now - and my park next door is half way between Oz and New Zealand. I then had another go - and now pommum tells me I'm near Japan!
One of two things will ensure - I'll eventually work out this map thingie or I'll run screaming down the street naked - attacking all computers in my wake.
Please God, next time can you go lighter on the imagination and make me more tech savy???

Now. Can anyone please tell me why maps suddenly take off and won't stop spinning around the world? This always happens to me, and I find it vaguely disturbing.

I just want you to know I've spent two hours trying to get my little blue marker off Japan and onto Australia.
(I might be thick - but I'm persistant.)
Mmmm, thank heavens I'm getting a ride from Toronto to Five Oaks - otherwise I might never see you, possums!

Heh, that would be Google for you. Its a sensitive little thing - be careful how you drag your mouse on it to look at things.
It is better to click on the directional arrows on the top left corner than drag on the screen and spin. Same with enlarging or minimizing the screen, click once too often and you're either in outer space or in the middle of the Pacific ocean.

there is a new add-on in google map, which allows you to draw a box around an area you want to focus on. works very well
PP, do you want that one deleted, so you can re-add a new one?
SG
Posted on: 05/05/2010 08:52
Yes Pinga, ask her first.
She spent two hours trying to just move it.
If she looks and is she will not be able to find it , she will be looking for days, weeks, months....!!!
There is the rest of Asia, Europe, Africa, the Americas.... and all the islands.... She could still be there in Oz on Google maps looking for her park while we are at Five oaks looking for her....
PilgrimsProgress, possum... you know I tease you because I like you, right????

Don't you dare so much as lay one of your short chubby fingers on it, Pinga!
Two hours on a effing map is more than enough for this luddite.
Personally, I'm content with what I've achieved. After clicking onto your "Here" (yes, I managed to follow that) I'm pleased with what I see.
With the exception of BethanyK - you're all crowded together like peas in a pod.
I, by contrast, am stunningly singular far south of you all.
Not only that, when you click on my blue thingie you can see what part of this beautiful city of Sydney I live.
I apologize to the pedantics, but I'm informed that for a street view I need an Adobe Flash Player Version 9 or newer.
Most times when I try to download new software my computer crashes - and I have to call on young Matthew downstairs to sort it out for me. (We have this deal that he can park his motorbike in my spare carspace - in return for computer help.) Now, he's a lovely young man, so I don't wish to overdo asking for help - so I've decided to leave it as things stand.

Little Pilgrim turns at gate, sobbing. "Thank your Mom for the lemonade - and taking my blood pressure."

Hey! I am not part of the pod.....look at the map again. Sheesh. It would take me the better part of five days to get to the crowd in the map. It may look close to you, but it ain't.

Yes, I do have a waterview - but I don't wish to mislead all you Canucks into thinking I'm a wealthy woman!
We bought this small apartment over twenty years ago - when waterviews were easy to obtain in our harbour city. It was a tight fit for a couple - but a good size for just me now.

ROFLMAO PilgrimsProgress,
The lemonade is good, more sugar added over the years. Your blood pressure is likely through the ROOF on Wondercafe... wonder why? LIttle excited, love?
