For many years I have puzzled over something that bugs me. This has happened for as long as I've been doing laundry with 'modern' machines (used to have far more primitive household equipment when I was younger!), There doesn't seem to be any significant differences between my machines and those of other family and friends - just the basic washer and dryer. Oh yes, they have been replaced without fixing my problem.
My problem? Why do the towels shred along the edges so that there are loose threads hanging out? Is there a solution to this problem that makes the towels look decrepit and ready for repurposing long before they get worn?

I don't think it is the fault of the machines we use Kay - I think it is the fault of the cheap way products are made today. Only suggestion I have is to re-sew the edges of the towels you buy before you use and launder them.

I appreciate your words Beloved. I can't help noticing that my adult kids and friends don't seem to have the same problem.

Maybe they don't expect their towels to last as long as I do?!

I'd blame the towels too Kay. I have a bunch of cheap face clothes and those are fraying. My better (larger) towels aren't.
