How to be a light

Lately I haven't brightened anyone's life up. I want to be a light. Some of the people on wondercafe are just so nice they make me happy even when I'm sad. I want to give people hope. Teach me!

Now you see, just by starting this thread you've spread some salt and light.

Kinst,

I agree with ninjafarey, this post itself has spread some light. Just by you saying you want to give people hope. Someone might stroll in, thinking young people are self-absorbed or that the world is all cold and dark and gloomy and they read this and you give them? Yep, hope.

I read a quote a while back, I am addicted to quotes. It said, "We can be the light of the world, but the switch must be turned on."

Thanks for turning the porchlight on.

jon71 posted this quote on another thread that really spoke to me.  It seems fitting for you too, Kinst.

"A candle loses none of it's light giving light to another candle."

My favourite ways to be a light to others are the simple ones:  holding a door for a stranger, letting some idiot driver merge in front of me, saying thank you, and being a listening ear.

Good luck to you, I know you'll do well.

Aw you guys are sweet. I love the quotes too.

In my life, people usually just tell me I'm cute, but I want them to be like, mark cheers people up.

Ok this is going to be a good week for karma. I'm going to make sure I brighten at least one person's day every day. I already have my first idea. I'll tell you guys after!

Hey Kinst -I agree, I read your thread title and it brightened my day.  If being 'cute' brightens days, just remember you won't always be 'cute' - use it while you can and surrender it gracefully in time.

How about choosing every action (well most of them) to make the world better?  Sometimes the light we cast is that general-all-around kind that doesn't seem to come from anywhere in particular.  Even on a cloudy day, it isn't dark.

Some great scripture line (I should try to remember where its from) - its the bushel one - if someone has a candle, they don't hide it under a bushel.  They hold it up for all to see.

With you around, the future's so bright, I have to wear shades!

And just to lighten this thread up some more, we could all wear lamp shades.

I have this picture in my head of a middle aged woman sitting at home on her computer with a lamp shade on her head. Wow, Crazyheart, thanks for brightening my day with that one!

And thanks for the "middle age" - you just made my day.

I have the perfect lampshade. The wife is 'old fashioned" and collects junk....  I mean she likes antiques or collectibles. There is this lamp shade with a border on the top and the bottom, not round but many sided and it has . It would be quite the outrageous... I mean elegant outfit and the "light" could be picked up by the crappy glass things.... I mean the chandalier glass baubles hanging from it.

Sorry, Crazyheart. I meant to say a beautiful young woman.

Freundly-Giant, there are many in this place that I greatly admire but you have always given me hope (and I think I am safe in saying I'm not alone on this one).

Just remember that a light bulb is small but its glow spreads outwards and becomes brighter.

hmm, a lampshade may look better than a bowler

then again, maybe not...

Hope, like the gleaming taper's light, adorns and cheers our way; and still, as darker grows the night, emits a brighter ray.   Oliver Goldsmith

Okay! I want everyone to think of something really nice to do this week!

  • I listened to my super-drunk friend talk about his problems and gave out like a billion tipsy hugs.
  • I did like 3 days of dishes for someone
  • I bought my friend starbucks and listened to her love life and stuff

I think I have to practice smiling. I like hugs tho! Your turn!
