i'm not sure where to put this, so here it is in social. as some of you may know, every year i try and make my gift giving more and more organic and fair trade. this year i donated rabbits to families in need, through canadian food for the hungry international. i looked around at quite a few different sites and this was by far the best bang for my buck. for $20.00 you can give a needy family 4 rabbits, which in turn offer:
I divied them up amongst all the kids on my list and created my own little gift cards mentioning the gift we donated on their behalf and all the bunny facts, which cost me $5.00 per kid and the minor cost incured printing it from my computer.
i just thought i would mention it. i know a few of you are last minuters ( *ahem* consuming fire).
happy and blessed easter everyone!

I love your idea of the rabbits, momsfruitcake - a gift that keeps on giving and giving and giving ( or so I am told by those who raise rabbits)

Gifts like these can be given any time of year. I think it is World Vision that has a catalogue of animals you can buy which provide food for people in countries where it is needed badly.

Is it just me or are there a couple of spambots on this thread?
Oh, great idea Momsfruitcake. My mom got a goat last Christmas from my brother. It was kind of a joke because my mom absolutely hated goats. Good thing that it was in another country.

Hi, all... a bit of a question -
Where is the 'Easter gift-giving' practice coming from? I remember (lo, these many years ago) when there would be a bit of chocolate... but nothing like the gifts I've seen shown off after Easter the past five or six years.
(And, yeah, I am worried that the gift-giving will overtake the faith-story... and turn Easter into another secular phenom.)

somegirl -- yeah, I flagged them to the admin.
RB -- it's amazing how our culture will find a reason for shopping anytime! I have friends who sidestepped that issue by giving out "spring baskets" on the first day of Spring (with chocolates, frisbee or other outside toys, new clothes, etc) and saving Easter for church.
that said, chocolate on Easter is fine with me :)
