Long Distance Suggestion for Cell Phone

I only use a cell phone and the long distance plan costs more than I use so I switched to calling cards but they expire on me as I don't call frequently.  I see on TV where you can dial a number first but that only works on land lines.  I found one for mobile but it's too far away to call for free.  Any suggestions?  Thanks!

I have a totally minimalist cell plan - no long distance included - so sorry - no ideas here.  I hope you find something that works tho!

As yet I haven't succumbed to the advertising and purchased a 'real' cell phone,  That is what my kids and grandkids call theirs.  They have cell phones that are so smart neither of us old fogies can figure out how to use them, or how to pay for one!

We have a basic phone to use in case there is an emergency when travelling.  Never needed it and eventually the card runs out.

Actually I think the smart answer to the problem would be for those smart manufacturers to realise there are people out there who would like a practical, affordable cell phone.  Until then we will buy cards for our handed down ancient model, that I suppose will eventually be 'incompatible' with modern technology, leaving us without service of any kind!

I just want to call within Nova Scotia.

I only have a flip phone and my laptop doesn't have a camera.

I think  you can actually use skype in your computer to make a voice call to a landline - but you'd still need a microphone.  An external cameral doesn't cost a great deal - I have one from microsoft - camera & mic together, works well.  Would be cheaper than a long distance plan probably!

Back in 2007, I used Skype to make long distance landline calls for free but I understand that now costs money or doesn't work.

I actually don't want to be stuck near my computer as I want to be able to use my cell phone to make calls where ever I am: not just at home on my computer.  I like walking around as I talk doing stuff like laundry as well.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Yeah I'm definitely not bringing back my long distance plan.  Currenlty I call family then hang up but that doesn't work for everyone I need to call.
