And I will add those red and green bell shaped Christmas candies coated with sugar.  (I have not had any candy for 9 1/2 months now :( - I don't miss it as much as I thought I would, but I did find it a little bit hard over Christmas).

I'm just going to throw in the bag of Purdy's Chocolates that I bought the other day with a gift card I was given for Christmas. In that bag you'll find some chocolate bells, a couple of chocolate Santas, Crisps Chocolate (milk chocolate with rice crisps), a marzipan chocolate bar and some mint melties. Yum!

the single zout taste sweeter than the double or triple

they come in different varieties as well, hard to soft...some are even spicy

hopefully there is a Holland store nearish you where you could try out some treats...

if you like gingerbread, do try out Speculaas--they're in the shape of windmills

Remember the old, hard, sugar Christmas candy that came in a package?  All different colours and flavours and shapes - usually contained some ribbon candy.  It was okay, but not my favorite, but my mom always bought it.

chemgal's picture

I haven't had these for quite a few years, and I think there's better candy, but my Gradnparents always had them at Christmas so I'll include some of these in the bowl too.  Anyone know what they are called?

Oops, the pic was there before I hit send.

The site says tri-coloured citrus slices, but I think they have another name.

Beloved - my mother used to buy those ribbon candies every Christmas. It seemed they always ended up stuck together in a big clump inside her little coffee table candy jar.

I just pulled the last of the Smarties off my gingerbread house and ate them. There are still lots of licorice strips, skittles and gummy fish (don't ask) left on it to share.

Gummy fish??? Are they the same as Swedish fish?

* adds some Swedish fish and Swedish berries to the bowl *

Also somel iquor filled chocolates.

I'm taking all the candy canes off the tree that nobody ate. Anybody want some? I'll add them to the bowl.

Be careful of your fillings if you eat some of my favorites - Treacle Toffee from the UK.  Also adding some very dark chocolate.

Ninja - I was just going to say that very thing!  One big colourful sticky clump!

Oh humbugs - my grandma always had a bowl of those - all year round!  And usually a few in her purse too, for good little grandkids!

Here are some cherry chocolates that are left over. I had them hidden. I love marachino cherries.

How about some Almond Roca? Peanut brittle? My grandpa loved both of those. I especially like Almond Roca.

Kimmio's picture

Chocolate almond 'bark'. Any shade, but milk and dark are best. I'll add some white chocolate for those who prefer it.

Kimmio's picture

And did anyone mention those pastel coloured mint chips/ buds that melt like chocolate? What are those called again? My grandma still puts those out for guests. Usually a Christmas thing. They're nostalgic.

Kimmio's picture

The bowls pretty full, but has anyone tried Rolled Gold, chocolate covered pretzels? They're really tasty, but be careful not to get hooked! All the salt and carbs of pretzels, plus sweet chocolate. Dangerous.

This would've been my Halloween loot bag dream as a kid- except it's not Halloweeen! Lol!...but better throw in some mini Oh Henry bars. Fun to talk about it and just imagine tasting it. But, I have a New Year's resolution to take off the weight I added in the past few weeks! It crept up on me this year! Better just think about it!

Can I add some real mandarin oranges- just as an alternative? Or does that make me a party pooper? I'm getting a bit of sugar overload!

Are you thinking of the ones that come from HIckory Farms? Or do we only have Hickory Farms in Ontario? They set up kiosks in the malls every December & they sell sausage, gift baskets, etc. And bags of little mints like the ones you are describing. They definitely melt in your mouth.

Found them. We have Hickory Farms products in some stores - no I'm thinking of Pepperidge Farms (I think there used to be outlets but I haven't seen them in years. Cheese logs and stuff, right? Maybe they make a similar thing. These are the ones I was thinking of.

Kimmio,

Thanks for the picture. They look quite similar to the ones from Hickory Farms.

They are usually easy to find in bulk bins year round.  I've never thought of them as a Christmas thing, but when they are around, I enjoy snacking on them!

Quoting you so you can stop editing. Ha ha.

Pepperidge Farms makes baked goods, I believe - - cookies and so on.

Hickory Farms is the one with the cheese logs and so on.

Yeah, editing. Caught me. I am actually texting. Getting quicker with my thumbs. But I am, right now, all thumbs! :)

Which reminds me...how about some mini Butterfinger?

I miss the Bernard Callebaut chocolate logs.  Those were good, a large, plain (dark or milk) chocolate log filled with the assorted chocolates.

I think Godiva makes those. They're pricey. What about Roger's chocolates- hey, somegalfromcan? They're huge, puck sized almost, chocolates. These are the originals:

No, Godiva doesn't make Yule logs. It is just Callebaut. Aren't they available anymore? My step mom got one out here a couple of years ago.
