"Quarry" - our 'backdoor neighbour' when I grew up - Mrs. Quarry to everyone else, but just Quarry to us kids; she died this afternoon at age 92, in her home, at peace and without pain. I'm grateful for her long life, and her presence in mine.

Mrs. Quarry left her mark in your world, and in many others also, my guess. May those who are mourning her loss be filled with peace and comfort. Glad you have hapy memories of this special person, carolla.

My favour Q words -
queen
quilts
qat and qi (which come in handy for playing scrabble)
quarries turned into botanical gardens
quarts (although I'm trying to think metric the old measures keep popping into my head)
Looking back over the thread I see that some others think like I do (including scrabble words)
I'm also reminded of: quads, quarters, and of course - questions. I love questions
which leads to 'quest'.

nope - "qunital" - I learned this from a friend who's Italian - he'd often heard his mother use it but didn't know the origin. Turns out it is an old weight/mass measure that the early Newfoundlanders used on their cases of salt cod that they shipped to Italy. Now, as to how much weight - well that differs! Meant 'a hundredweight' - which was often listed by the British as 112 pounds - go figure - trust people who drive on the left side of the road to make a hundredweight actually 12 pounds over a hundred!!

Paradox - do you play Scrabble on facebook? I'd like to have a game. I used to fancy myself pretty good until I I met some people from here on facebook. Right now I'm in a game with Northwind - she's had three bingos. How does anyone compete with that?

No, I am not a FB user, Seeler. 3 bingos in one game is awesome!
