I have been reading and trying to digest all the comments and plans for WC2, but one question keeps popping up, in a broader sense.
We talk about Peace, and Peace on Earth , and Peace in our churches, mosques, synagogue and temples. How will this ever happen if we can't even have peaceful discussions on these threads.
I think Pinga noticed that on one thread there were 20 comments or so that had nothing to do with the opening post. We were too busy arguing about who are the mojos and who have the power.
Come on folk. June will soon be upon us and at this rate Peace will never be here.

When is the current WC slated to cease existence? I can't find the original post. Thanks!

Hi crazyheart,
At church this morning we heard that one of the elders had company over for dinner. They have a 22 month old grandson.
Grace was said and at the end instead of saying amen, the elder said, "And all God's people said..."
The 22 month old shouted, "Go Riders Go!"

My patience is so lacking that I can't take the time to hunt for the proper WC2 threads to post my concerns on.....:(......I'm not sure I should be participating here today. I had better go look for a good book to read.

Good one SNP!
Yes, CH, I agree with your thoughts. Didn't 'the man' say something about specks and planks in eyes? It appears to be well past the time to lighten up, or at least think a bit before hitting the Send Button.
Let thee be peace on earth and let it begin with me.

I was guilty about going off topic. One of my off-topic posts definitely wasn't an argument, and others weren't intended to be, although others may feel differently. Other off topic comments weren't all arguing. It happens, we go off topic at times.

Interesting question: how do peace and discussion fit together? How do they fit together AND make an interesting website to visit?

LOL @BetteTheRed
I think you're onto something. Its like the movies. Who wants to go to a Mom and apple pie movie?
Perhaps if we had some virtual Native American peace pipes we could smoke and discuss peacefully?

The premise is good. I would watch it. http://www.applepiemovie.com/index.htm

Aw...that's sweet. It was a 50 Eggs production. Have you watched many?

I think discussion differs from debate inasmuch as discussion is generally friendly, and honours disagreement and the people who expresss it, whereas debate is more about who is right or wrong, and can be hostile.

If a debate is hostile, you're doing it wrong, though it is often done wrong (cf. our beloved Parliament). Yes, debate is right-wrong but the whole point of debate is doing it in a civil, controlled manner that ensures both sides get their say. That's why parliaments have a speaker and why formal debates have a speaker and adjudicators and rules.
It is hard to do debate properly on an online forum where you really can't do things like assign who speaks when or how long each speaker gets. Civil discussion of an issue or idea is the goal, rather than a debate in the classical sense. That said, discussion will definitely often move into debate territory and that's often where things go off the rails, precisely because you don't have the controlled environment of a formal debate. Active mods can help by stepping in when things go outside the forum rules (e.g. if it degenerates into a flame war, with insults rather than arguments being shot back and forth) but that still leaves a lot more leeway than you have in a debate.

Yes, Mendalla, I've seen discussion turn into debate more than once here on the cafe, and not the classical, civil debate, which would be okay with me, but but a flame war, with insults rather than arguments being exchanged.
Well, I hope the moderator of wondercafe2 will throw out those who continue to throw insults after having been given fair warning.
