I feel the excitement in the Cafe in the last couple of days. What happens if the WC in its new form goes belly up? What do we do then?

Well, what we have is going to be gone . . . at the end of June.
If the new form doesn't fly, or goes belly up . . . I guess we find our community in another place or in different ways. I guess if there is nothing else, some will keep contact on FB. Some will find another forum to take part in.
We don't have control over either one.
While I sense that there is a bit more activity here, CH, it is a small group of people who are forming that activity . . . kind of like trying to get everything we can in the last few months before we lose this. But the reality is there are probably less than 50 active participants (I think I saw a total somewhere of 34 who voted on the naming of the new site). 50 is not a large number , I don't think . . . Do you think it is enough to keep something going?

If it's very slow, but some still wanted a meeting place, there are free sites that are still forums where I guess we could land so people could stay in touch and not be forced to Facebook.
Give it a chance, and see what happens. We might be surprised.

Noone talks about the French WonderCafe.ca. How is it doing?

The plan is for a fairly lean, mean operation, at least to start, so it would be hard for it to go bust as long as people come out and use it. Growth would be nice, but if we can get started with a solid core from here then at least there's a good chance of keep it going in some form. The rub is getting that solid core, though. If a bunch come over to start but then it tails off before any growth start happening then, yeah, bust is a possibility.

I saw the French WC the other day. Its only on Facebook if I'm right, 89 members with Eng. translations. I saved it if I can find it... called Change Cafe - sp - or some such. I'll google again.
I can't find a post Aaron wrote about not changing the WC name too much or it may affect the search engine ( something like that) that brings new people to us. I'm not sure I understood it. Lets say WC exists in well over 100 places on the net then I understand when someone clicks on wondercafe.ca wherever they find it that the person will be re-directed to our new WC 2. I wonder if that's right?
If we take a few min. to count the active posters now its true there's only a few bantering back and forth. I don't think there's a really big interest in a new WC but perhaps some people don't access Social or Church Life where the news is. Its overlooked?
You'll have to come up with lots of topics for the new WC crazyheart because I'm a bit afraid some of us may be a tad burned out, our brains are weary. You can write about your fantasies to keep us awake and hooked.

It wasn’t very active, had a dimishing number of posters and topics and often long periods between posts. But really good topics and thoughtful posters. Also a fair number of topics would be more interesting to people in Quebec than elsewhere. About a year ago or maybe just last summer, it was shut down here and people were re-directed to Facebook. I think it is even more reduced in activity there but I no longer follow it.

Asking, thanks for that information. I remember a person from that site, maybe you(?) who posted here a few times and I enjoyed reading.
I would think co-existence could be possible especially with google translate now. It wont' be great, but, who knows..maybe possible and something to consider.

I think that was the second one.
Musicsoothes, I believe, had the honour of being last on Theoblogger's thread. I think the first LAST thread was shut down when the wondercafe software was upgraded.

if it goes belly up then it will be something extremely blessed and wonderful: our responsibility instead of some outside agency (metaphor for personal responsibility vs. giving up responsibility for feelings, actions, ideas to some 'g_d'/UCC/'the government'/etc)
paradox3
Posted on: 03/29/2014 07:31
Were these ads on our WC.?
If you think back to the original campaign, the ad agency presented the UCCan with several options. The link you provided might be to some of the rejected options.
I wouldn't be surprised. Those ads seem even edgier than the ones in the actual campaign.

WC is still slow compared to some points in its history. I think you are right, Beloved, the number of active participants is relatively small now.
Some of us have become more active recently and I think you are right about getting everything in before we lose this.
In the end only 37 people voted on the name for WC2. Possibly others are interested but indifferent to what it ends up being called.

I think technology and social media changes happen so fast and so often. And that people move on to new and better things. Hopefully Wondercafe2 will attract new people. But people will still come and go.
I've noticed a difference on FB. I primarily joined FB to keep up with nieces and nephews who live away from me - to see pics of their kids, etc. I find they are not as active on FB as they were when I first started. I am going to have to ask them if they are using a different social medium or if they have another reason for not using it.

I keep hearing that FB is going to run into problems. A lot of younger folks (i.e. my son's crowd) aren't that into it relative to even my generation. They are more into the image sharing social sites (Pinterest, Instagram), micro-blogs (e.g. Twitter), or, for the young male set that Little M runs with, gaming-oriented sites (for instance, Steam, a major game store/cloud run by Valve Software, has social features).
Whereas, large forum sites that are more focussed (i.e. have a specific topic area that they focus on) and more discussion-oriented just keep chugging along as they always have. Rpg.net is thriving as is the other site I frequent, and both predate FB.

I'm hearing the same about facebook. I'm hearing its becoming more of a place for the middle aged or older folk. My teenage grandson and his friends very seldom use it anymore.
FB definitely does not have millions of "active members" like they pretend they do via the media. They have lots of people who have registered because it is or was the social in thing but they don't participate in it. Sometimes on a forum or chat we get referred to FB re a certain article or picture and we need to register on FB to gain access, that's why some people do it. Its not a priority.
I can't keep up with technology but the teens are on their iphones with a webcam while texting..?.. or talking, and also on Twitter and the others you mentioned. Its a fast moving and changing tech world out there.
There are still lots of discussion forums being successful depending on the topics and the owners. I have discovered some that have been hacked or had a virus, whatever, and are now abandoned so I'm cautious altho' I have high security on my puter. Its too much trouble to fix problems should they occur.

Facebook is used by lots of folks including young & old for status updates, keeping connected and sharing photos.
What you don't see youth doing is using facebook to share meme's, etc.
As we become connected different tools will address a niche, it will sync or swim, then it may be acquired...becoming integrated iinto larger companies, such as facebook. You then see. the ability to post from one app onto facebook or log in with your facebook account.

Like most churches we're not filled to overflowing with teenagers, but those we have are all on Facebook. From what I can see a lot of their friends are on Facebook. I've heard the reports that teens are abandoning Facebook, but I don't personally see the evidence.

Whoa. Not to downplay p3's objection because she's certainly entitled to her opinion - but we're going to start deleting things because one person objects to a 21 second scene from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" Really? The easier solution, respectfully, would surely be for the one person objecting to not watch the video!

Context is everything Rev Steven. In this case the context was poking a little friendly fun at my username. Admittedly I am more sensitive to this right now than I would normally be. Given that WC is closing down and all that. I have grown rather attached to my paradox3 identity.
I appreciate IW's response to my objection very much.
