What made you smile today?

This is a simple topic. As you have gone through your day what has made you smile and feel good about things?

I can think of a few things:

1. Getting a phone call from my closest friend who lives far away

2. Eating an excellent "triple chocolate" cookie

3. Sitting outside and feeling the sun

I'm having a tough week health-wise and would enjoy hearing any positive thoughts that you would like to share from your own life. Doesn't have to be anything big. Small stuff is good too.

I needed to remember the good things today - thanks - saw some friends in the midst of turmoil - good to pick me up,
And I taught a terrific couple some labour coping stuff last night and she said at the end that she had come from feeling scared & wanting to "quit!" to feeling like this was doable & exciting and not so bad. We had fun & laughed and I felt like I was in the right place at the right time.

What made me smile today?
*watching my 5 year old high-tail it outside in his underpants at 7:20 to give his daddy a hug before he went to work. Whew! Almost missed him, but caught him in the nick of time. Neighbour across the street caught the whole thing.
*big hug from my daughter before school for no apparent reason
*coffee with curlingmom
*hearing the woman at the coffee shop gently remind an older gentlemen not to forget his cap
*thread in parenting about money in which nestingtree delightfully described parenting to a tee (IMHO)
*receiving a couple of wondermails from wondercafe friends
*just being able to breathe in the springtime feelings

tigerlilly ... I hope you are able to feel other people's joy today. I had no intention of posting today as I am visiting family in Saskatoon (and should be visiting!), but couldn't resist this one. I'm high up in a building that overlooks the vast prairie .... nothing like the neverending land and sky (even though I also love the water and mountain vistas there are more usual for me). That made me smile to wake up to. Being with my partner's parents celebrating 'dad's' 80th birthday. That's worth a lot of smiles.

My son is invited to a birthday party after school and the boy's father is picking them up. This morning my son was very nervous because he had never been to this boy's place before. We discussed what would take place and when he would be coming home and what I would be doing while he was gone (because he needs to know where I am most of the time) and it was all good.

At 2:15 I get a call from the school, "your son is not feeling well maybe you should come and get him". I tell the secretary that I know exactly what is wrong and I will be there very shortly.

I enter the office and the principal says someone will bring his stuff down and I said "don't bother, he won't be leaving and I smiled". The principal said "the secretary said you were a wise mom" and she gave me a wink and off we went back to my son's class. I stayed with him till the end of the day. He got in the truck with his friend's dad and now I am sitting back and smiling and reflecting knowing these days will soon be over and I will not be the most important thing in his world.

I love this thread and have smiled my way trhough it all.

Waking up and realizing I was in bed after the time the alarm would have went off, knowing someone snuck out of bed leaving there for a while longer.

Calling mom and hearing some good news, talking and laughing about some silly memories.

An email from a friend I had not heard from in forever, an Aussie with the sharpest wit I have ever found. It simply said, "Ring me up and flap yer gums btw get out the amber fluid, fossil" Her vacation is a go! Yippeee!!!!

Hearing about a friend's little boy. What he did was funny and made me smile, but she is a mom that makes me smile too.

The phone ringing and hearing, "I love you" before I even heard hi.

Life is good...

Seeing two of my daughter-in-law's newly planted flowers bloom and being able to tell her about it. She and my son just flew across the continent yesterday. At least I can share a little bit of the home she is making in our family with her by email, even when she's so far away.

Seeing how proud my son was of himself for getting 95% on his English 12 mock exam.

Being greeted by both of our two dogs and our aging cat all at once. Said cat's nose has been firmly out of joint since the arrival of the second dog.

Hearing about two of our sons' close friends planning to get married.

The bear hug I received from a colleague as I left for a two week training session.

We had an ex-neighbor of ours down from beautiful Bayfield Ont, whom we love. She had dinner with us and it was just great seeing and talking to her. She's such a wonderful woman... and an awesome gardener. She's coming back soon to help spruce up our garden!

Oh, Tigerlily, you are a gift of the spirit. Thank you for opening up this thread, and for others sharing their joys. I have started my day with this, and it has been a blissful start, reminding me of all the wondrous touches God had shared with us, and that we forget or ignore. It brought to my mind the lovely touch I had this AM with the top of my sleeping spouse's head - soft and vulnerable, and just"¦there. And the glance from my deck door at green gren grass and flowers bathed in sunlight. I relaxed into trust immediately. Thank you all again.

It's coming up to noon. in southeasetrn Ontario, a gloroious day.

Three hours ago, I began hanging a roller-blind thing over a set of built-in shelves "” my wife's request. Two brackets, one each end: four screws total.

It takes me a while to find studs that align with the edges of the shelves But I do... and I get the brackets up. tThen I discover that the sides of the cupboard are too far apart for the blind end assembly bits (which are adjustable) to sit into the sockets without falling out. These are fiddly little bits that that don't seem to match the pictures in the instruction leaflet which is in Chinese anyway.

Screws out: I cut a nice tidy piece of thin walling board to space the bracket on the right out a bit which will make it easier for the pull cord thingy to work anyway: screws in again!

Then I find it's still not quite enough. Screws out again. I make a similar wee spacer for the other side. Screws in again.

Why didn't I use a tape measure you may well ask. Well, I was. But I was standing on my grand daughter's plastic stool (chairs were too high, amd our stepladder didn't fit in the space with its lergs apart; so I am reaching up above my head a bit which brings on the vertigo I've experienced ever since an inner ear infection, so I fall of the stool quite regularly, the light is bad in there and I wear bifocal lenses so looking up and reading tape measures is tricky. Also, the tape measure is sprung to rewind like a bear trap the moment your attention's off it for an instant. It if gets you, it'll take flesh with it. Moreover, I'm not using power equipment because the extension cord... never mind, it's too difficult to explain. Also it is very hot in the little alcove and by this time sweat is running into my eyes.

SO "” four screws in again. But I have half-turned the brackets somehow, so the rolled up blind won't fit clear of the top shelf.

Four screws out again.

I find the English bit on the instruction leaflet. I discover, to my surprise, that the Chinese have not had the foresight to take people like me into account. Finally I get the screws repositioned without having to re-do the spacers and the brackets cover up most of the previous holes. Wonderful. And everything seems to work.

Now I WAS using a level. Serious mistake! I'd got the blind level at the top. But our house is old and the sides of the space in which the cupboard was built are not vertical. So a level blind, unwound its full 6'6" bumps into the right hand wall at about 4'6".

Screws out again. We are talking about making a correction fo a VERY acute angling here. I can't make new screw holes that close to the old screw holes. So it's all four screws out again.

If there's a woodlouse back there, it's little brain will by now be bursting with all sorts of existential questions. I imagine being a woodlouse behind the wallboard. ("Hey! Here comes that screw again!")

I compose in my head a theogogical explanation for the woodlouse.

That makes me smile. But i am aware I HAVE to get this finished.

SIX holes later it is all done. I put the tools away (I'm the only one in my family who does that, not out of tidiness but I can't stand looking at them "” it's the way they make me feel. If you want to instantly cower every shred of my self confidence, hold up a screwdriver or hammer!)

I heat the coffee. I take a nice hot coffee to check my e-mails (I'm near a deadline and and waiting anxiously for stuff to come in from other people). No e-mails yet, so I bounce across onto Wondercafe and this thread.

That makes me smile again. I wriote this.

Let me know if you have any theologically perplexed woodlice and I'll have a wee chat with them.

I've been smiling all morning. Now I'm going to go outside with another cup of coffee and spend some time with my grand daughter (my wife's at Conference today and my daughter's got to go to work in a couple of hours.) Then I'll be babysitting ...

LOL, Mike...we have to install a rollerblind on a new kitchen window with zero clearance on each side, because of cupboards...and we keep putting it off and I just tack up a tacky sheet while we think about it....I think we're NEVER going to do it, after your experience...unless you could zip over here??

I should be slapped for saying this, but...at least you got some screwing in. This has been a joke and dash....I'm getting back to the garden where I feel all wholesome and godly!!

What made me smile today?

Well I'm usually smiling everyday. But back when this thread started on Thursday, I had a great big smile.

I was driving through Riding Mountain National Park on my way to Conference and saw SEVEN black bears! First was a mother with three larger cubs and then a mother with two smaller cubs.

The next day, I was riding through the park again (because I was with the Youth and we were on a field trip) and saw a moose and a deer.

But the black bears were the highlight of the trips through the park.
