Rejoicing & a small celebration here! The sun has rewarded our patience ...my husband found my car key & remote today! Missing since December in the pile of shovelled snow. We've been searching every day as the snow is receeding slowly... and at last - success!
They look pretty much okay - not much water damage I think because it's been so steadily cold! We've put them into a bowl of rice - which I understand has ability to draw moisture out of drenched electronics ... fingers crossed.

Well, nothing is ever truly lost in the universe. Everything is always there.

Looks like you lost them while the leaves were still falling off the trees! I hope they still work!

Wonderful news. Hope the rice does the trick for you. I've never heard of that before.

Those key fobs aren't too complex, it should work. Glad you found them! I'm surprised the metal detector didn't work.

fortunately, still in the driveway! Now if I lived in Parry Sound, it would likely still be under meters of snow!!

carolla, I love it. There must be more plastic than metal and thats why the detector didn't work. Now let the rice do its trick.

Great news.
I found papers from Jan 23 and 24, not nearly as exciting, as well as the broken limbs now on display
carolla
Posted on: 03/30/2014 17:18
Yes pinga - so much debris from the winter's ice storm is showing up. We went for a walk in a woodland today & really noticed that too. (assuming you DID mean TREE limbs!!)

Yes Beloved - do you think I need to leave an offering to St. Anthony? Although he was mightily slow at the recovery effort!! Any suggetions? Perhaps pingas old papers?

All I've discovered on my spring walks through neighborhood parks has been an old pop can and water bottle. It's so disappointing to see. How hard can it be for people to toss their garbage into the recycling bin that's ever so close to where they drop their trash on the ground.
Pinga
Posted on: 03/30/2014 18:27
We saw recycling bins go sailing off of snow banks and people chase after the contents. I participated in such a chase
Some of that garbage is just part of having open bins, high banks, wind and snow

Props to you and others for chasing down those contents Pinga. I hope it is as you say - that what I've seen today was just spillage.

My thaw discovery - when the city hauled away Little M's old dresser at Christmas (you can put furniture out in the garbage in London), they missed a door. It emerged gradually from a snowbank over the last week.

yay Carolla-and rice certianly did the trick for my phone. I had it in my back pocket and it went for a mighty brief swim in the toilet. Then right into rice-phone open and battery pulled-and I took off the screen protector-it is fine-now is 8 weeks later!

My thaw discovery, many years ago: My two hunting rifles that my son had thrown out in an anti-gun fit. They were a bit rusty, but still worked. I gave them away when we moved to town two years ago.

oh my - a door & several rifles! those are quite the find in the melting snow!! It is interesting to see what gets revealed by mother nature.
good to hear your phone is well tabitha. I think you lost something around the time my keys went missing - glasses maybe? Did they turn up?

Quite often here the thaw will reveal an awful lot of doggy-do.

I wonder who will be found at church or other locations as the snow melts and it becomes easier to get around? Who will disappear?

No never did locate that pair of glasses-but used a newer frames with scratched lenses and updated the prescription. Then my 12 year old fashion consultants told me I need "hot' glasses so I now have 2 pair of trifocals (graduated lenses) that work well for me.

Not sure how to state the relationship. It was my grandmother's brother and his wife. They both gardened in northern BC. One spring she lost her wedding ring in the soil. It remained buried for a good number of years. Then, one harvest season, her husband pulled up a carrot which had grown through the ring.

A teaspoon ended up in our compost bucket, then on the compost heap, eventually in the garden soil, and when I spaded the garden in spring I hit something solid and it was the spoon, which is now back in our kitchen drawer, with a nick inflicted by the spade. It has become my favourite spoon.

In our backyard, the end off one of drain spouts has reappeared from under a snow bank. Now, it often gets knocked off, even in the summer, so nothing odd there. What I can't figure out is how it ended up about 8 feet from its normal location up a slight rise. The bunnies dragged it away?

Lost my mouth guard this morning . . . I took it out to talk on the phone cause it makes me talk funny and I put it down somewhere. I went to look for it after, as I am going to the dentist to have it adjusted, and I couldn't find it!!! I looked all over . . . and wished I could phone it like I do when I lose my cell phone. I searched everywhere I thought I could have quickly put it down. I thought I was going to have to cancel my dentist appointment. And then I lifted up my oven mitt on one of my ktichen counters . . . and . . . ta da!! there it was. (Thank goodness).

(It is a mouth guard I am to wear at night as I am grinding my teeth, but I had it on this morning so I could feel where it is hurting me - I usually don't wear it during the day).
