When Love Comes To Town.
Sermon for Fourth Sunday of Advent, Dec. 22 2013
Preached by Rev. James Murray at Dominion-Chalmers United Church.
The town gossips must have had a field day. Everything that could be wrong had gone terribly wrong.
Yesterday I went for a run. It was a special run for me.
Yesterday I ran 21 kilometers, which is a half marathon.
I didn’t run that far on my own. There were over 600 of us on this run.
Half marathons are a very popular race.
With every kind of social group, races have own trads & habits & norms When you sign up for a half marathon, you get your bib number,
but you also get a race shirt.
Now some people will wear that special race shirt for the run.
“Acting on Thanks” Text: Deuteronomy 26:1-11. Thanksgiving Sunday, Oct. 13
Preached by Rev. James Murray at Dominion-Chalmers United Church
I must say I am relieved to see the end of September.
It was a sad and bloody month.
The month began with the 12th Anniversary of the Sep11th attacks in US. On the same day, a Florida pastor was arrested
before he could set on fire several thousand copies of the Qu’ran.
The month really went off the rails when
a pair of suicide bombers in Pakistan killed close to 80 Christians
as they were leaving their Anglican Church after the Sunday service.
What will it take?
What will it take for us to take the message of Jesus Christ to heart?
Even in Jesus’ day people wondered what will it take
for people to take the message of God to heart.
Even though they had a thousand years of tradition,
the people were not always living up to who they should be in God.
People who thought they were good
were walking past those who were in need.
Jesus felt they needed to change. Jesus believed they could change.

A torrential rain storm hit Toronto on Monday, knocking out the electrical system. Flooding shut down the transit system and the major highways. Tens of thousands of people were stranded with no way to get home. The storm set a record for the most rain to fall in a single day. The previous record was held by Hurricane Hazel, which hit back in 1954. Toronto Mayor Rob Ford spent the storm sitting in his air conditioned SUV since the hydro was off in his home.
Sermon for Trinity Sunday, May 26 2013 by Rev. James Murray. Text: Romans 5:1–5
It’s been quite the tragic week. On Thursday we witnessed a brutal murder in London England. Two men in a car ran down a British soldier just outside of the army barracks. They then got out of the car and hacked the soldier to death with butcher knives. The two men told onlookers that they did it to avenge the deaths of Muslims around the world. They blamed the British Army for killing Muslims in Afghanistan.
