A Good Friday Reflection

Hello all - it's been a while!

So... I was lucky to be asked to do a short reflection this Good Friday on one of the Lord's 'last words'.  I was assigned Luke 23:32-25, the troublesome "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing" reading.

I've posted my reflection-in-progress in my Blogs (http://www.wondercafe.ca/blogs/faerenach/good-friday-reflection) and would love some feedback.

Thanks so much, folks!  It's good to be back.

I don't care for the font you selected.  wink

I can't blame you for the pumpkin colour background I realize that is a WonderCafe.ca issue.

I have no critiques with what you have written.  I found it very provocative.

I like what you did with the problem verse.  I like your pointed references to Psalm 22.

Noting that Luke 23:  34a is missing from earlier documents is a teaser though.  While I like how you resolve the dilemma I probably would have drawn more attention to Psalm 22:  9-11, 19 and 24.  Particularly in light of Luke 23:  34a.  I note that while Psalm 22 doesn't have any favourable imagery for the crowd of witnesses surrounding the Psalmist it doesn't call upon God to judge them in anyway.

Whether Luke 23:  34a deserves to be kept or not the subject of Psalm 22 doesn't condemn the crowds around him and Psalm 22:  27 suggest that all remember the Psalmist's witness and turn to God.

That said, I appreciate your meditation.  Well done.

Grace and peace to you.

John

Faerenach,

Good job, my friend!

I like that you were seen in it (if you know me and how I deal with fristration...) The frustration bit also highlighted you are by virtue of humanity a human, in a pew or a pulpit and that is with human traits. I noted the "we" and that you included yourself when some might have said "you are the next generation"...

I personally LOVE that you love footnotes. I got a paper back with a note "I cannot believe you can footnote a film you watched". I too am a bit odd.

My only critique is that there was no language not suitable for younger audiences, no explicit material and a complete lack of nudity. I'm just saying....

Great job, Faerenach.  Not at all boring cool, and the best bit is to relate it to our lives, today.  A call to us to not be spectators but to be fully alive and conscious...maybe of the agreement we give by not disagreeing.  Loved it.

Thanks everyone for the feedback!  I think it went well... had a handful of 'that was great!' comments from the congregation.  And only twice (maybe three times) did someone ask when I would be becoming a minister!

And . . . when will that be, Faerenach smiley?

Thank you for sharing with us . . . a lifelong journey and quest to discover what it is that we are to learn and discover as we read the gospels and the last words of Christ.
