An unmarried couple get caught in a compromising position on a beach in Dubai and get arrested. The question being: do we feel sorry for this girl and think she got a rough go of it? Or should she have been more mindful of the customs and laws in the country that she was a guest in?

i have a hard time feeling sorry for this woman... if you travel, it is your responsibility to learn about any laws or customs that will affect you, and adjust accordingly for them.

I agree sighsnootles not only was it her responsibility to know the customs but it says in the article that the police had already given them a warning.

They showed no respect. They were warned. They were ignorant, arrogant, socially challenged and stupid, as well as sharing the phychosexual sophistication of a jackrabbit. The wonder is that each of them found another person as cretinously shag-happy as him/herself in a civilised country like Dubai; on the other hand, it is no wonder the police found them. The pathos of their case makes me puke.

With what goes on in today's society it almost makes one think the Arabs may be on to a good thing there.
WOW hey, we are all in agreement here! Alert the press

My only question, and it might just be the way it is reported, is that only the woman appears to be jailed?????
While i agree that disrespecting the customs of a country is deplorable what happened to "Vince"?
If both are arrested and fired. Great.
If only she is arrested and fired, well that isn't quite right by me.

yes there is that. Saudi Arabia is kind of wonky when it comes to women.

I had a similar opinion at first, but she also "launched a tirade at the police officer who arrested her and threatened him with one of her high heels".
Maybe 'Vince' acted in a more respectable manner at the time. I wouldn't be surprised if the original charges would have been different (unfortunately), but Michelle wasn't exactly helping her cause.

nothing like provoking the authorities in a foreign country to enforce an extended stay.

I find that people on vacation in other countries tend to feel superior to the natives and act rudely. this is very apparent to the natives. and they are giving their country of origin a bad name.
just because someone speaks another language than you, does not make them unable to understand what you are doing. being an a hole is a universally recognized quality... like a smile... or a wink... or a shaken fist.... here comes the a hole...
