I've brought this up before, but now there's a national cord blood bank so I thought it was worth discussing again.
If you were to have a baby and had the ability to determine at the time of birth, what would you do with the cord blood?
Bank it for personal use? Initial cost ~$1000, yearly storage fee $125 (can be paid as a lump sum)
Donate it to the public bank?
Delay cord clamping? I think if this is done the cord blood can't be banked.
Allow it to be discarded?

Did it private with our two, would do again. Carter's may yet help him, even though it was potentially contaminated upon collection. That's about a 1 in 10 chance, btw.

I didn't realize (or forgot) you did it with Claire too. That would have been fairly early on. Has it become more affordable since then, or have the prices remained about the same?
