I've brought this up before, but now there's a national cord blood bank so I thought it was worth discussing again.
If you were to have a baby and had the ability to determine at the time of birth, what would you do with the cord blood?
Bank it for personal use? Initial cost ~$1000, yearly storage fee $125 (can be paid as a lump sum)
Donate it to the public bank?
Delay cord clamping? I think if this is done the cord blood can't be banked.
Allow it to be discarded?

I find the idea that if you're giving money to charity and in debt, you're not actually giving anything, the loaner is. Does it depend on what you would do with the money if you hadn't donated it?
Should people in debt donate? Does the type of debt matter?
