Are science fiction going to poo because moviemakers are trying to appeal to females?

I just saw the Green Hornet. Not a very good movie. It had its moment and then would fall flat. I've seen this before. I don't mean to be offensive but science fiction should not be trying to appeal to schmaltzy Hollywood romantic scenes just to draw more chicks to their flicks. It seems this ruins many sci fi movies and comic book here movies too. There's a fine line!

Sorry for the awful spelling and grammar in this last post on science fiction movies. I'm getting tired and need to turn this computer off!

I agree with sighs. I have known many women who were into sci fi. I say that as a person who has been actively involved in fan clubs -- at one time President of Star Trek Toronto, President of Quantum League (a Quantum Leap fan club), and member of the Klingon Strike Force and Klingon Assault Group. Also, good sci fi has often involved scenes of romance and passion. If The Green Lantern is a bad movie it's because The Green Lantern is a bad movie. I have no doubt but that sci fi will continue to capture the imagination of men, women, and children alike.

Yeah... I thought some more about this post and realized I went overboard. I think the scenes in the Green Lantern between the romantically involved characters were just bad scenes (with terrible music). Had they pulled it off it could have enhanced the character development and made for a better movie. And I'm not saying women shouldn't be in sci-fi movies. I just think shmalzsy Hollywood type romances are very problematic in sci-fi movies.  I was upset that this movie bombed when it could have been much better. It had its moments. Thanks for everyone's responses.

sighsnootles is such a good chick that birds of all sorts, even nobel-prize winning ones (and Czech chicks as well) call her up and ask her "How did you become such a good chick?"

:3

(not to mention the many daughters and sons of ophthalmologists whose university educations are being paid for by replacing sighsnootles' many cornea transplants when her corneas fuse when she reads certain WC people's posts, like Pan or mine)
