A celeb couple (preferably with a family together) that you actually like?

I personally am voting for the Branjelinas to make it in the long run. Same with Johnny Depp and Vanessa.  What other celeb family men and women that you truly respect?

Goldie and Kurt for sure. Together (while not married) for over 20 years I think.

Tim Robbins and Susan Sarandon - same thing.

Also celebs with strong marriages/relationships to non-celebs: Oprah, Jay Leno

 Faith Hill and Tim McGraw.

He has had many ups and downs but I have always had a soft spot for Mel Gibson and want happiness for him. He is also a family man.

I'm never sure how you can "like" someone without meeting her/him.

The celebrities I've met are all in my dark, long distant journalistic past. I usually met only half of the "couple", I'm afraid. So this takes me back. And celebrities were a bit less driven in those days. Of these:

British comedian Eric Sykes: a delightful guy, loved him. I spent a bit of time with him personally when he visited Halifax and he was very funny, considerate and generous spirited.

Welsh actor Richard Burton: depressive when I met him — a night of hard drink and morbid conversation that turned to weeping. Very sad.

American comedian Tony Randall: nice, an opera buff and frustrated serious actor. He used to act in serious theatre at the Neptune from time to time, in Halifax. Not funny in real life, more serious. A good conversationalist.

Mary Travers (of Peter, Paul and Mary): An interesting, articulate person with good values, i think. We had a great blether one long evening, reminiscing about the '60s.

Harry Belafonte: lovely guy. I liked him. I interviewed him twice.

Dame Vera Lynn: a lady worthy of the title. I really liked her: gentle, funny, concerned, self-possessed.

Chris de Burgh: he used to gig across Canada before he was famous and would look in whenever he was in Halifax. We drank a bit of coffee together and I liked him. He was a young musician on a slow build back them.

Jenny Agutter (best known for her role in The Railway Children): a wonderfully likeable and unassuming person. And very beautiful in all sorts of ways. I was a big fan and enchanted by her when I met her.

----

There were others I was less impressed by, including one or two well-known Canadians, who will remain nameless. And a number of lesser "stars", many of whom I liked and one or two (in the U.K) who are still good friends.

Good point.  However not having had the privelidge of meeting folks as you have we are going on what we know third-hand. I know many (most) publications are rags, especially ones that deal in celebrities.   People mag seems somewhat trustworthy. The best of the worst you might say. But if a person in the public eye gets dragged into court for things getting busted at the airport for drugs and/or weapons, or tearing up hotel rooms or other idiotic behavior like that...(Or the NFL player who got busted for being involved in a pitbull fighting organization.) I don't care how talented a  performer or athlete is, I cannot be a fan of someone morally bankrupt. Where there is smoke there is usually fire. (That means you, Snoop Doggy Dog).

Still there are some we sort of naturally sympathize with. The couples who are genuinely trying to have a good life and raise a good family together and have some relationship longevity behind them and weathered some storms together. My husband and I in the nearly 9 years we have been together have weathered mental illness, general low income, two stillbirths, not to mention the regular rigors of raising children in today's society.  I guess that is what I am talking about.

Well, under the heading of "Call no man fortunate until he is dead":

Alistair Sim and his wife Naomi Plaskitt

Paul Newman and Joanna Woodward

No first-hand knowledge but they always seemed like very strong marriages.

i've always been curious about bono, the lead singer for U2, and his wife... they have been married for like 20 years or something, and have kids.  this guy writes love songs that are just so raw, passionate and SEXY... you have to believe that his wife and him have got something pretty special going on.  i hope that i always feel that way about my spouse!!!

Bono just got himself in a bit of hot water recently by being out with a friend and being seen with a couple young ladies.  Nothing happened exept a her sitting on his lap or something(?). The girl herself said "He is too old for me, we are just friends".   Aaaa well we all have our not-so-shining moments don't we? Still doesn't disturb my admiration of  him either.  His voice is getting tired now, you can hear it in live performances, but his songwriting is still stellar.  I am glad he is still with his wife, it just adds so much to a person in the spotlight.  (Unlike Madonna)

A few months ago, I was on the west coast and ran into Jenny Garner( Well, I ran into her in a park while our kids were playing, as Ben was apparently off shooting a film)

She seems VERY down-to-earth and the girl next door ish, and made you forget that she's a movie star and I think they sound like a very grounded couple.

My vote's for them....

Brian Eno and his wife...they seem very cool as well...

As a mother of teens...I'd have to say I hope Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens make it...they are from High School Musical...pretty lame I know! I also think Brad and Angelina are doing well...oh ya, Apple and Mose's parents (Gweneth & Chris from ColdPlay) too!

OH! A 'celebrity' couple.

I thought you meant a celibate couple.

Then I read Brad and Angelina.

oh MY god!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE!?  Before you "flag" me or anything please read back over this discussion board!  Right here I can see what I have always believed about the blind leading the blind.  I am not trying to offend anyone, just open your eyes.  Please see that the birth story of Jesus Christ is basically the same as every other virgin-birth story in religious history.  I am not against Christianity or the bible, I do not agree with organized religion though.  It breeds this type of blind faith.

What is so interesting about celebrities?  They are actually pretty boring!!  Most of them are shallow, insignificant human beings.  Even if they aren't, they are just people.  I don't peer in my neighbors windows to find out what is going on their private life!!  Do you?  I personally think that our society has become sick with consumerism and this is part of it.  The love of Hollywood is not something I would have expected to find on this site full of Christians discussing intelligent things.

storyofstuff.com   Please see that you have been manipulated!!  Jesus was not the first "messiah"! Brad and Angelina have been manufactured so that you find them interesting!  So you will buy the magazines, the movies and watch Star! TV.  Ever ask yourself why computers look different every few years? It is not technology! It is brainwashing!  Open your eyes!

SHE IS JUST A REGULAR PERSON!!

they are not "movie stars"!!  just people!

Do you "oooo" and "aahh" at the doctors in your local hospitals that save lives every day??

these celebrities are ACTORS  that is all.

Well we don't have TV and the only stuff I pick up on celebrities is mainly in passing.   However I do watch movies and one would have to live in a vacuum or out in the boondocks to not know ANYTHING that   is going on in the movie/tv culture.  Mainly it is because they get so much exposure that we would like to see some well-known couple actually MAKE it in their marriage/relationship, especially with children involved.

Sort of like Anne Murray's song, "I sure could use a little good news today."

Also, this IS the Pop Culture Forum.

It is refreshing to see well-known couples actually trying to have a family and a 'normal' family life, at least as much as they are able given the circumstances. Rather than people like Pamela Anderson going through what...three husbands?

I respect Katherine Hepburn far too much to pretend that couples in la la land have any priority or interest to me either intellectually, spiritually or materially ( career wise) that a single woman or man in la la land can not have.  Families are nice and cute and bond us, for sure.  But really . . .princess Suri's first year of clothing could have bought me a really great house!!!  I do NOT take this lightly, it is an insult.

Yup, looooooooooooong row to hoe to match up to Katherine Hepburn.  Can't imagine who has?

Celebreties bore me. Who cares if they are married or married again. I don't. People around me are much more exciting.
