I was out on the deck cleaning the shades from our kitchen fluorescents, and suddenly I was hearing/singing "Don't let it end" by Styx. Haven't heard the song in years, but it was one of my favorite songs from Kilroy was here. Anyone else being tortured by earworms?

YES!!!. There is a song by a band from Finland called Amorphis that takes a lot of lyrical inpsiration from Finland's national epic poem, The Kalevala. The song is called "Silent Waters", I cannot for the life of me get it out of my head. Thank goodness it's a great song.
Here are the lyrics.
Silent Waters
A day's light told me of my son's fate
the sun showed the way, grim and severe
pulled under the raging waters, my child
sank in the drowning currents, my son
My strength is not enough, my powers failed me
I need the heavens help, I ask for thunder's force
I plead for you oh lightning, forge an iron tool
a magic rake of dragging, a river for my son
God of fire bring your light
forger of sun help me now
guardian of the shore will sleep in your warmth
lull the folk of cold water
banish the serpents of the dark
to the river let me go and fetch my son away
A rake made of iron from the Gods of skies
the spirit of bright days sent me the sun
cold troops of Tuoni can not stand in my way
untouched I shall walk by the river of the night
my child
my son
Not only can I not get the song out of my head, but for me the lyrics offer a lot of imagery that I can see with my eyes open........IT'S FREAKIN COOL.

Torcher? I wouldn't call that torcher. That's a good song! I don't think I remember old song without a little snippit reminding me. Then the torcher is in that I HAVE to find that old tune and hear it in it's completeness again, then play it over and over. I admit, I'm a real nostalgist stuck in 80's music.

It's okay to remember it once. It becomes torture the 20th or so time , esp. when you are trying to get your mind on to something you're doing.

Lots of earworms. Thankfully I can't (and won't) bring them to mind right now. It would be great if I actually enjoyed them, but the ones that stick in my mind seem to be the most annoying.

I saw a milk bumper sticker when I was out on my bike today and now I can't stop humming Ode to Joy.
"drink milk, love life..."
gah!

The thing to do when a song gets bothersome is simply to put something else on! Easy fix.
The king of all earworms is "Brown Girl in the Ring" when you're stuck in a life and death struggle for survival on a mountainside, as in the film/documentary "Touching the Void" (highly recommended film).
