Sigh, an end of era
For those of you who were never sucked into the Vegas crime scene this will have little resonance.
Gil Grissom aka William Petersen has been standing over corpses spouting quips and displaying an eccentric affection for bugs since October 6 2000.
I remember the first time I watched Grissom, I thought "my goodness what a plank of wood, he's as stiff as the dead body" but over the years he grew on me and I will miss him.
As always there is a woman involved and I blame Sarah - never did like her.
Sigh, Thursday nights will never be the same....

i cried at the end.
but for me, it was happiness for the character... his comment that 'it is the right time to go' really resonated. it simply was the right time to go. he finally got to the point where he said 'you know, this just isn't doing it for me anymore...' and so he left, and went to be with sarah. what i liked about it was that sarah NEVER made it about her. she chose to go, and obviously let gil know where to find her when the time was right for them to be together.
i'm tearing up just thinking about it... the character arc of gil was beautifully written and performed...

Greetings!
I watched CSI on occasion. I did watch it last night. Personally, I liked the ending. I liked that Gil ended his successful career on top, while everyone would still miss him, young enough to do something else for the remainder of his life. I also liked the ending, which caught me by surprise . . . right up til he entered the clearing and she turned around. Ahh, LOVE!
Hope, peace, joy, love . . .

I have watched the show from the very beginning and while I'm sad to see him go {I always viewed him as the character the others revolved around} I am not sad to say goodbye to the "Grissom's Farewell episode" commercials that have been playing non-stop for weeks!

personally, i LOVE LOVE LOVE lawrence fishburne as an actor, and i'm intrigued by his debut on CSI.... i just assumed he would be revisiting his 'morpheus' kind of 'i know everything about everything' character, but it looks like the character he has now is very much a guy who knows very little, but is going to hit a VEEERY steep learning curve here right away....
fascinating. what did you all think about it??

I almost barf'd at the ending...I thought the relationship was gross...I love all the charactors and with sighsnootles am looking forward to Lawrence Fishbourne...the charactor I miss the most and had the most shocking leave from the show would have to be Warrick...any ER fans? The 2nd most shocking charactor of all times leaving a show was when the Medi Copter crushed that bald red head Doctor...can remember his name...but it was a great episode!

I have watched CSI regularly since its beginnings and definitely saw last night's episode. I know it'll take some getting used to - like Maye I thought the show revolved around Grissom's character.

I, too, am intrigued by the Fishburne character and hope that he will evolve like Grissom.
What I like about CSI over the CSI series, is that dry sense of humour that is found in every episode and as time went on I was sure that humour was coming from William Petersen. I hope that it will continue in his absence.
I may laugh at Horatio Caine and Mac Taylor but I sure don't laugh with them, if you get what I mean.

Grissom: There are three things people love to stare at: a babbling brook, a roaring fire, and a Zamboni going around and around.
Catherine: I love a Zamboni.
Grissom: Everybody loves a Zamboni.

I watched the last 20 minutes... which is about all I can stand of that series. Was interesting, I guess.
Sorry, but the Las Vegas one my least favourite of the three.

Good show last night with Fishburn coming in as a new level 1. Cute how they all help him along, and yet call him sir and Doctor....
I think it will work and this issue of the office was handled well. That will add some new dynamics to have them sharing space.
I also was shocked at Warick's death. Never saw that coming and I loved his character. He will be a loss. I didn't mind when Sarah left, I had grown tired of her.

I did not get to see Grissom's last show. I did watch last night and enjoyed seeing Lawrence Fishburne. I was surprised to see his "geeky" character, since that is a very different role from his usual. I think he will be a good addition. Is he supposed to be a medical doctor, or a science/university professor doctor? Or both?
I will be looking for re-runs of Grissom's last show.

Northwind - I think Fishburne's character was a medical doctor who became a lecturer/professor. I remember someone saying something about him working at a hospital.

Thanks Maye. That makes sense since he seemed to have both sides, and seemed to have written a book. It will be cool to see his character develop.

After Nick, Grissom was my favorite character on the show. I will miss the character. I too did tear up a bit at the ending at the way he became alive again when he met up with Sarah and you could tell that it was so obviously the right thing for him to have done. William Petersen did such a wonderful job with the character.
That said, the show did need some new blood as it was getting pretty stale. I like Lauren Lee Smith as the new CSI, her character is strong and confident, and she doesn't take any crap, yet the character is not over the top. Fishburne could be very interesting. I'm not sure what to make of his character yet.

Sigh, we had an ice storm Thursday night I lost half my satellite channels including all the ones that carried CSI over several hours, so I missed the new character's intro.

I couldn't find the episode you talk about where he leaves and such on the eztv.it site.
Is there a link you can give me for it?

Wolfie, I'm not sure this link will work, CSI S09E10 720p HDTV X264-DIMENSION
If it doesn't you can go to eztv.it, select CSI-Criminal Investigations and then SO9E10 added on January 16, 2009.
Hope this helps, if not you'll have to wait till next summer when it reruns!
Or maybe sooner, has anyone ever figured out how they come up with reruns they never seem to be in sequence. One of life's little mysteries...

I gotta say; with that writers strike last yr I almost lost interest. Grisson gone? I'm with the guy who related his characterization to a plank board. He was alright. Sara? Ick. No chemistry at all. I think that's what's missing in this show. Nick-don't even get me started he's so hot. I just can't believe not one single chick in that lab room isn't sweating over him. There's no chemistry or love-interests. I think Fishburne is going to be great. Much better than Grissom's character. I don't know why I still watch. The thing with all these shows is that shortly, we'll be watching reruns for 6 months until the new Fall line-up. For what they get paid, ludicrous.
