New songs

The song "Friday" by teenager Rebecca Black has quickly earned a rep for being awful in an entertaining sort of way. It is pretty bad, IMHO, but is it the epic fail that the 'Net is painting it as being? Decide for yourself.

Hmmm. No video. It was there when I previewed. IE9 issue, maybe?

Here's a link instead while I look into it:

And a new song that I like, nay, love. The story I've heard is that Serena Ryder wrote this song but didn't feel it was right for her and put it out for someone else to find and record rather than recording it herself. Melissa Etheridge got it and decided that she wanted to record it as a duet with, you guessed it, Serena Ryder. They did the initial recording in separate studios but are now touring together and performing it live. This is from the Genie Awards.

Okay, that one worked. Maybe the board software doesn't like Ms. Black's magnum opus either .

I have seen the video and listened to the song. However, with all the vicious and evil comments left on the net for and about her, I will not add to it.  It is not the best song ever recorded, but it was sung by a 13 year old girl who just wanted to sing a song and make a music video. At least she is trying to do something with her life. If she wants to make music her career, I say go for it. I would suggest however that she takes the time to do it right, get some professional guidanceand training and not try to go the quick route to fame.

This song however, is pretty dang awesome.

I hope this young lady learns from the criticism that is being shot at her right now, finds some humility and realizes she is not Justin Bieber material.  At least not yet, and not without some hard work.  But poor kid - look at all the equally "modestly" talented people that she must see parading themselves on American Idol and the like - little wonder she thought she was ready for the eyes of the world.

But is it the epic fail that it is being portrayed as?    ummmm.....yes.

Agreed. There are a number of celebs whose half-arsed attempts at being singers (Paris Hilton and Kim Kardashian come to mind) are at least as bad. I hear Simon Cowell is interested in her so maybe that professional guidance is coming. If you think being managed by Cowell is a good way to start a career, that is.

I'm not saying I like the Rebecca Flack, but I don't think it's an epic fail. It's not that bad. I think she's a cute girl doing her thing, good for her. I've heard far worse. Poor thing all that critisism.

Well, I would wager that being managed by Simon Cowell is WAY better than being managed by the people at Ark Music Factory.

Liked that so I tried some other FoF songs that came up in the sidebar on Youtube. Good band. Here's another track by them for others who may be interested.

Ya can't go wrong with Future of Forestry. Great band. Alot of their music is pretty avant-garde, so you won't hear what typically gets pushed as music these days. They certainly are refreshing.

Band of Skulls; might fill the void left by the breakup of the White Stripes.

The FoF song Open WIde reminded me of ALberta, not in a bad way. Then I dreamt I was living in ALberta again last night, and it wasn't so bad. ZIt would be so much better if you could fly!
