I thought this was quite an interesting video, and would be curious to hear what others think:

"I don't know if it is really accurate to say all Americans are the global 1%, is it? I mean logically... Mathematically, rather: 313000000 USA/ 6973738433 World = ~.0448 = ~4.5%, right? So if our number of people is 4% of the world, only a quarter of Americans could be "the one percent" at most. That's assuming no one in Europe, no Saudi oil barons, no heads of non-USA corporations, no drug king pins, anywhere else in the world was richer than the top 25% of Americans. Since this graph shows that the next to top decile of Americans is far less wealthy than the top decile, I would guesstimate that at most, the top 10% of Americans make up PART of the global 1%. While our general standard of living is privileged, we need to be realistic, and not hyperbolize our place in this. Assuming all Americans are the obvious oppressors/completely insulated is part of why our proletariat and those of other nations see themselves as opposition rather than relatives in a difficult, unequal world."

My thoughts, in the talk below, are expressed in the hope of getting people to rethink their priorities and commitments. What I intend is in agreement with popular resistance movements such as "Occupy" and "Idle No More". We are in a time which is much troubled and conflicted by the abuse of power at the highest levels of religious and political authority. It is a time for persons to become aware and work towards remedy. While I am speaking live to a small group of Anglicans and United Church persons, I trust the words will also encourage persons who are not involved with organized religion, persons who are pressing for social change for reasons of their own.
