If there was only God....

If there was only God, no Jesus , the man, no Spirit and for those who believe  no 3 in 1.

Just God.  God is very important in my life      - with me minute by minute , day by day but if there was only God, there would be no stories of  Jesus- no parables, no life lessons, no teachings of love and Agape. Theer might be Spirit but would I recognize it without the parables and metaphors that blows through the New Testement.

Just God - Did God teach? Is God personal? Could we love with just God? Could only God meet our needs?

What do you think and why?

Crazyheart - I think that there is 'just God'.   I'm trying to imagine my relationship to God without seeing God through the life and teachings of Jesus.  It seems to me that without the son we would still have God.

Without Jesus we would still have 3/4 of our Bibles.  The stories and poems - the prophets, the teachings.  Yes, we would still have love.  The commandments begin with the command to love God.  And the law tells us to love our neighbour.  We would still have the requirement for justice, mercy and humility.  We would still catch a vision of the world as it is meant to be.  The Spirit, a manufestation of God's presence would still blow through the world as it has since the beginning of time.  And over the last 2000 years we would have gained insights and enlightenment to write a new testament - without Jesus.

Nevertheless, I'm glad that we have the life and teachings of Jesus.

Seeler - right on!

And...

Church authorities have twisted Jesus' teachings. Without Jesus and His teachings and and an overly powerful priesthood, we might have figured out the truth much earlier.

But then maybe we would be still mired in the belief system of 2000 years ago and still think of God as a wrathful, less than capable person. We might still be dragging our sons up the mountain to the alter and carrying a big knife in our back pocket. Or lending our "sister" to the pharaoh.

And ....

We wouldn't have an A.D. and a B.C.

Is there just God?

It depends on how we define "God."

If we, as I do, define God as the self-creative totality of being, then there is nothing but God, and we are an integral part of God.

We, the doubly sapient creature self-named Homo sapiens sapiens, have the capacity to be aware of this, and act accordingly.

We are as gods and might as well get good at it.

-Stewart Brand, editor, Whole Earth Catalog

When the secret of the atom within the atom is clear, then the secret of all things, both internal and external, is clear, and you see nothing but God.

-AlBalyani, Sufi mystic

yes

"In light there is total creation. Light is the mother of creation. The ‘beginning’ and the ‘end’ are in light. But Life is beyond light. The source of Life is in the Supreme Being.

"Nevertheless, creation around us is important to us. Nothing is outside us. Everything is within mind, spirit and body. Those who learn the art of Self-realization in mind, spirit and body will experience that everything within and without is from one source which we call God. In effect, anything and everything belongs to the Almighty."
- Maitreya

Hi crazyheart,

I think chansen pretty much nails it.

In Judaism God teaches, is personal, is loving and provides for our needs.  In fact, most of the Christian arguments for all of these beliefs find their genesis of thought in Judaism.

Since Judaism is not know for proselytism it is arguable that most of us participating in WonderCafe.ca would belong to various other traditions had it not been for the advent of Christianity.

Grace and peace to you.

John
