The Luther King Memorial

President Obama has presided at the dedication of a national memorial to Martin Luther King, placing him in company with George Washington and other presidents. This is surely a dangerous development.
Reverend King, after all, was a man who led people in demonstrations against the established political and social order. He improperly used the pulpit to preach the false idea that the word of Jesus has something to do with our public lives. He was what my friends in the riot police used to call a 'disturber".
This is a time to be grateful that no Canadian clergymen would ever be so indelicate as to apply the teaching of Jesus to our national and political behaviour. At least, that seems to be the view from here in Moncton, the New Jerusalem of abstraction.

Well, one city that got it right is Murfreesburg, Tennessee. Muslims (no doubt terrorists in disguise) bought land to build a huge Muslim center in their city. A lawsuit was at once filed to stop this. After all, this complex was apparently being funded by Saudi Arabia. Public meetings were held by the County Commissioners and sympathizers with these Muslims were forbidden to speak, and rightly so, since people so lacking in political savvy will soon transforms US society into an Al Qaida hotbed! But it took a long time for these pesky Muslims to get the message. So their building equipment was burned and their signs were vandalized with messages written large, "Not Welcome in our Neighborhood." This tough action was needed because American liberals are turned us soft and betrayed the war on terror!.
Then these Muslims switched their focus and bought a huge fleld in a suburb of Memphis, Cordova, Tennessee, on which they proposed to build. a huge Muslin Center, consisting of a mosque, a meeting center, a medical; clinic, a youth center and indoor gym, and outdoor fields right next to the Heartsong Church. Can you imagine? Steve Stone, the evangelical pastor of this church, was beside himself. So what did he do? He sold out the War on Terror! He immediately put out a huge sign that read "Welcome to the Nieghborhood." That stupid sign seems to have muted most of the overt opposition. Then Steve did the unthinkable! He offered his sanctuary for Muslim prayers during Ramadan and 200 of them regularly came to pray under the gaze of the giant cross in the church sanctuary. This gesture turned their relationship into a lovefest. Now those Muslim bastards have us just where they want us! So I guess we need to tear down the Martin Luther King Memorial because it encourages this sort of weakened resolve.

Thank you Berserk for a wonderful expose on what happens when love and neighbourliness are invoked. Those Cordovans need to be watched to see the outcome of their unique experiment ;-)
